Ranidah Waterfall: A Hidden Wonder of Nature Amid Chhattisgarh’s Dense Forests
Raipur, Oct 2025 : Ranidah Waterfall, nestled deep within the lush forests of Chhattisgarh, is one of the state’s most enchanting natural treasures. Its true beauty emerges during the monsoon season when the water cascades with full force, surrounded by vibrant greenery and misty valleys. For adventure seekers, photographers, and nature lovers, this site offers an unforgettable experience. The crystal-clear drops, echoing roar of the falls, and the tranquil green valleys captivate every visitor.
Located about 15 to 25 kilometers from Jashpur district headquarters, Ranidah Waterfall is set amidst thick forests and hilly terrain, famed for its breathtaking natural beauty. During the rainy season, streams of water tumble down massive rocks to form a large pool below. The surrounding forest trails, winding paths, and undulating hills make it a paradise for trekkers and explorers. The serene and refreshing environment makes it a perfect picnic and eco-tourism destination.
A fascinating legend is associated with the waterfall. It is said that Queen Shiromani of Odisha fled to Jashpur with her lover and, while hiding from her brothers, took refuge near this very waterfall, where she ultimately surrendered her life. Hence, the place came to be known as Ranidah, meaning “the Queen’s fall.” Nearby, visitors can still see the Queen’s memorial and a site called Panchmaiya, symbolizing her five brothers. A Shiva temple near the falls further adds to its spiritual and cultural significance.
The waterfall remains active throughout the year, especially from June to February. It is situated about 18 km from Jashpur on the Aara road and 5 km off the main route. Tourists can reach it by road, train (via Ranchi or Ambikapur stations), or air (Ranchi and Raipur airports). The district administration has developed viewpoints, stairways, and safe picnic facilities to enhance the visitor experience.
Ranidah Waterfall is not just a prominent tourist attraction on Chhattisgarh’s map but also a site that harmoniously blends nature, history, and adventure. A visit here offers a profound connection with nature’s calm, sacred, and mesmerizing essence.
