Cyclone Montha Disrupts Train Services in Telangana; 127 Trains Cancelled
Hyderabad, Oct 2025 : Train services were severely disrupted across parts of Telangana on Wednesday after railway tracks at Dornakal in Mahabubabad district were submerged due to heavy rain triggered by severe cyclonic storm Montha, which crossed the Andhra Pradesh coast earlier in the day.
The Guntur–Secunderabad Golconda Express was halted at Dornakal Railway Station, while the Mumbai–Bhubaneswar Konark Express and Adilabad–Tirupati Krishna Express were stopped at Mahabubabad Railway Station owing to flooding on the tracks. In neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, the Sainagar Shirdi Express was stopped at Kondapalli in Krishna district, while at least 12 goods trains were stranded at various stations across the state.
The South Central Railway (SCR) announced that it has cancelled 127 trains and diverted 14 others due to the adverse weather conditions caused by the cyclone. On Wednesday, the SCR also declared the cancellation of the Secunderabad–Visakhapatnam Express and the Howrah–Secunderabad Falaknuma Express, scheduled to depart on October 29 and 30, respectively.
Meanwhile, the SCR informed that the Howrah–Secunderabad and Howrah–SMVT Bengaluru services will now run on their normal routes, reversing the earlier diversions.
Trains cancelled for October 29 included the Nanded–Visakhapatnam, Visakhapatnam–Lingampalli, Visakhapatnam–Kadapa, and Narasapur–Guntur services.
To assess the situation, Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, General Manager of South Central Railway, conducted a detailed review meeting on Tuesday focusing on operational safety and preparedness to tackle the cyclone’s impact. The meeting included senior officials from all SCR divisions, particularly the Vijayawada and Guntur divisions, along with the principal departmental heads.
Srivastava instructed officials to closely monitor the cyclone’s path and coordinate with state government authorities and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to ensure the safety of railway infrastructure, especially in low-lying and flood-prone sections.
He also directed teams to ensure monsoon patrolling of vulnerable track segments and to deploy stationary watchmen at key bridges and sensitive locations to provide real-time updates on the situation.
Officials said that train operations will resume gradually once the water recedes and track safety is confirmed through inspections.
