Loan Waiver for Farmers by June 30 – Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Announces

Mumbai, Oct 2025 : Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday night announced that the state government will finalize a loan waiver decision for farmers before June 30, 2026.

“A committee has been constituted to review the loan waiver process. The committee will submit its recommendations by April 2026. Based on these recommendations, the government will complete the necessary procedures and ensure that the loan waiver is implemented within three months — by June 30, 2026,” the Chief Minister said.

The announcement came after a meeting held at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai, chaired by Chief Minister Fadnavis, with representatives of protesting farmer organizations. The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Agriculture Minister Dattatray Bharane, Water Resources Minister Girish Mahajan, Cooperation Minister Jaykumar Rawal, Ministers of State Adv. Ashish Jaiswal and Dr. Pankaj Bhoyar, Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar, and senior officials from various departments. Farmer leaders present included former Minister Omprakash Babchu Kadu, MP Raju Shetti, former Minister Mahadev Jankar, Wamanrao Chatap, Ravikant Tupkar, Rajan Kshirsagar, Girish Dabhadkar, and Ajit Navale.

Chief Minister Fadnavis emphasized the urgent need to provide immediate financial relief to farmers affected by natural calamities, saying, “Funds must now be credited directly into the accounts of distressed farmers. Without this, they will be unable to undertake the Rabi sowing. Therefore, priority is being given to the ₹32,000 crore relief package.”

He added that the package aims to assist farmers impacted by excessive rainfall. “A total of ₹32,000 crore will be distributed through this scheme. So far, ₹8,000 crore has already been transferred to farmers’ accounts. By the end of this week, ₹18,500 crore more will be distributed, and within 15 days, 90% of the eligible farmers will receive direct deposits in their accounts. Necessary provisions and instructions have already been issued,” he said.

Fadnavis also clarified that while the loan waiver was included in the government’s election manifesto, it is a short-term relief measure. For sustainable, long-term solutions, a special committee has been formed to study the issue in depth. “Since loan recovery typically happens by June, we have set the deadline accordingly. Our discussions with farmer representatives have been positive, and all leaders have agreed on this approach,” he noted.

The Chief Minister concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment: “The committee will submit its report by April 2026, and based on its recommendations, the loan waiver will be completed by June 30, 2026. Meanwhile, priority is being given to the timely disbursement of the ₹32,000 crore relief package so that farmers can proceed with the upcoming Rabi sowing season.”
