Marpara PHC and Zemabawk UPHC Receive New NQAS Certificates; Champhai District Hospital Awarded LaQshya and MusQan Certifications

Aizawl, Nov 2025: To strengthen the quality of public healthcare services in India, the Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Marpara in Mamit District and the Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) at Zemabawk in Aizawl East District have newly received the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) Certificate. With this, Mizoram now has 40 out of 57 targeted HWC-PHCs and 6 out of 9 targeted HWC-UPHCs certified under NQAS.

Dr. Lily Chhakchhuak, Mission Director, National Health Mission (NHM), Health & Family Welfare Department, stated that Marpara PHC and Zemabawk UPHC achieved 91.97% and 95.98% respectively in the NQAS assessment, reflecting the high quality of healthcare services provided.

So far, 54 government health facilities in Mizoram have obtained the NQAS National Certificate. Additionally, 16 health facilities and 23 HWC Sub-Centres have received state-level certificates, and they are currently undergoing evaluation for national-level certification.

Furthermore, Champhai District Hospital has newly received the LaQshya Certificate for excellence in labour rooms and maternity care, along with the MusQan Certificate for superior pediatric care. Under the LaQshya program, the hospital secured 93.96%, earning the Platinum Badge, while under the MusQan initiative, it achieved 96.57%.

The NQAS certification process involves three levels of assessment, with the final stage being the National External Assessment, conducted by assessors from outside the state. Only facilities achieving a minimum score of 70% are certified. Certified institutions are evaluated based on infection control practices, staff competency, service delivery at all levels, patient care quality, safe and effective medical services, hospital cleanliness, and overall environmental hygiene.

Mission Director Dr. Lily Chhakchhuak expressed gratitude to the State Quality Assurance Unit, the District Quality Assurance Units of Champhai, Mamit, and Aizawl East, the CMOs and all staff, as well as Dr. Zatluanga (DMS, Champhai DH), Dr. C. Lalrinmawia (MO, Marpara PHC), and Dr. F. Vanlalchhuanpuia (MO, Zemabawk UPHC) for their dedicated efforts in achieving these milestones.

She added that these NQAS-certified government health facilities are meant for the benefit of the people, and she encouraged the public to utilize them responsibly and effectively.
