1.9 Lakh Citizens Made Aware Under Road Safety Campaign; Strict Action Against Traffic Violators
Jaipur, Nov 2025 : The state government is taking stringent measures to prevent road accidents and strengthen road safety. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, the government has launched a 15-day statewide Road Safety Campaign from 4 to 18 November, prioritising safer roads. As part of the campaign, vehicle drivers are being made aware of traffic rules, while strict action is being taken against violations.
Police Department Strict on Traffic Violators
Strict action is being taken across the state against those violating traffic rules. Under the Road Safety Campaign, from 4 to 8 November (five days), the police penalised:
- 3,736 people for drunk driving
- 21,911 for overspeeding
- 15,174 for driving in the wrong direction
- 1,586 for dangerous driving
- 4,311 for driving without reflectors
- 8,585 for driving without number plates
During this period, 1,90,067 citizens were made aware of traffic regulations and safe driving practices.
Police teams also carried out awareness drives to implement lane driving systems on various state highways based on the NH-48 model. Teams were deployed to ensure lane discipline and take action against those violating the rules.
Transport Department: Over 8,500 Vehicles Challaned, 22 Permits Cancelled
Under the Road Safety Campaign, the Transport & Road Safety Department has so far (up to 8 November) issued 8,567 challans for various violations:
- 574 challans for overloading in goods vehicles
- 216 for carrying passengers in goods vehicles
- 5,653 for other violations by goods vehicles
- 106 challans for overcrowding in passenger vehicles
- 21 buses penalised for carrying luggage on the roof
- 1,033 challans for other violations by passenger vehicles
The department has cancelled 206 driving licences, revoked registration of 38 vehicles, seized 400 vehicles, and cancelled 22 vehicle permits. Additional action has been taken in various other cases as well.
Medical & Health Department
As part of the campaign, on 8 and 9 November, the Medical & Health Department conducted eye check-ups for 2,765 commercial vehicle drivers (truck and bus drivers) on national and state highways. Spectacles were distributed to 387 drivers who needed them.
So far, the department has conducted eye examinations for 5,044 drivers and distributed 789 spectacles.
Coordinated Action by Multiple Departments
Various state departments and district administrations are working together under the Road Safety Campaign:
- Public Works Department (PWD) carried out tasks such as clearing roadside bushes, fixing speed breakers, installing warning signs, indicators, and signboards, and closing unauthorized road cuts.
- Urban Development & Local Bodies Department worked on clearing footpath encroachments, repairing streetlights, and shifting stray animals to safe locations in various districts.
