Meeting Between The Sports & Youth Services Minister And The Secretary Of Youth Affairs

New Delhi, Nov 2025: At around 11 a.m. today, Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar, Minister of State for Sports & Youth Services, and Smt. Pallavi Jain Govil, Secretary (Youth Affairs), Government of India, held a meeting at Shastri Bhawan, New Delhi. During the meeting, they discussed various matters related to Youth Affairs and the implementation of related programmes in Mizoram.

Sports Minister Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar informed the Secretary that there are major shortcomings in the implementation of the Mera Yuva Bharat (formerly NYKS) programme under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports in Mizoram. Out of the 11 districts in Mizoram, only 10 have MYB district offices, and currently only four District Youth Officers (DYO) are in position. He also highlighted that there is only one Accountant and one Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) in the entire state.

The Union Youth Affairs Secretary informed that 190 DYO posts are currently being recruited through UPSC and that the Ministry plans to fill vacancies in 420 districts across India, including Mizoram. She said that Accountant and MTS posts will also be filled through the agency process, and Mizoram will likewise receive its required share of posts once the process is completed.

Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar also explained that the Youth Hostel at Luangmual, Aizawl, cannot be fully utilized because of land ownership complications. He noted that due to the traffic situation in Mizoram, especially on the Sairang–Aizawl stretch, there is a growing need for a new Youth Hostel, and expressed hope that land for the new facility would be allotted by the government.

The Youth Affairs Secretary assured the Minister that the Government of India will prioritise and expedite important documents and proposals submitted by the Government of Mizoram, and that the Ministry will give due consideration to Mizoram’s requirements.
