TN CM Stalin Inaugurates ₹61.74-Crore Road Overbridge in Virudhunagar, Issues Appointment Orders to 120 Recruits
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Thiru M.K. Stalin on Tuesday (11.11.2025) inaugurated a newly constructed Road Overbridge (ROB) in Virudhunagar district, built at a cost of ₹61.74 crore, and issued appointment orders to 120 candidates selected through the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC), including 98 Junior Assistants.
The ceremony was held at the Secretariat, where the Chief Minister formally opened the overbridge built as an alternative to Railway Gate No. 427 on the Srivilliputhur–Sivakasi–Virudhunagar–Aruppukottai–Thiruchuli–Narikkudi–Parthibanur road. The ROB has been constructed between Srivilliputhur and Sivakasi railway stations and is now open for public use.
Infrastructure for Growth
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister highlighted that strong and modern road infrastructure is crucial for the socio-economic development of any state. Tamil Nadu, he said, has been consistently upgrading and expanding its road networks under a mission to improve transportation facilities statewide—this includes construction of new roads, widening of existing ones, repairing bridges, and modernizing critical transport infrastructure.
The new overbridge in Virudhunagar is part of this broader effort to reduce delays caused by railway level crossings, ease traffic flow, and enhance overall connectivity in the region.
Strengthening the Workforce: 120 New Government Employees Appointed
Alongside the inauguration, the Chief Minister also issued appointment orders to 120 newly selected candidates under TNPSC. These include:
- 98 Junior Assistants
- 14 Assistants
- 8 Typists
These candidates were selected for various positions within the Highways Department, which plays a vital role in executing the state’s large-scale transportation projects.
Continuous Recruitment to Maintain Progress
The government emphasized that staffing is being regularly strengthened to support uninterrupted functioning of the Highways Department. Between 2021 and now, a total of 1,061 personnel have been appointed through TNPSC and through compassionate grounds. This includes:
- 416 Junior Drafting Officers
- 129 Assistant Engineers
- 186 Assistants
- 139 Junior Assistants
- 73 Draughtsmen
- 7 Senior Draftsmen (Grade III)
- 3 Typists
- 45 Junior Assistants (via compassionate appointment)
- 3 Assistant Engineers (compassionate)
- 9 Draughtsmen (compassionate)
- 15 Record Clerks
- 36 Office Assistants
This steady recruitment ensures that major road and bridge works continue without delay across the state.
