MP to be developed as a Hub of Green Energy: CM Dr. Yadav

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav stated that green energy is the need of the hour. Through integrated energy production methods, the state and the country are moving towards a clean, green and bright future. He highlighted that with private partnership and cooperation, Madhya Pradesh will be made a hub for green energy. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav made these remarks while addressing the virtual inauguration of three newly established Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) plants by Reliance Green Energy Company in Bhopal, Indore and Satna via VC from Samatva Bhavan, on Wednesday.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said these state-of-the-art compressed bio gas plants symbolise partnership and progress, converting waste into energy. He emphasised that Madhya Pradesh has very fertile land, and energy production via CBG plants will help reduce incidents such as stubble burning in the state. He declared, “We are preparing the energy of the future in Madhya Pradesh.”

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav performed Bhoomi Poojan for these three CBG plants in 2023-24 and has now inaugurated them. The company has established a total of six plants in the state, with three inaugurated on Wednesday. Plants in Jabalpur, Balaghat and Sehore are under rapid construction. The company has invested approximately ₹700 crores in these six plants, which have a combined production capacity of 45,000 tons per year. The operation of these plants is expected to reduce annual carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 17,000 tons, providing strong evidence of government efforts toward environmental protection.

Inauguration of the Compressed Bio Gas Plant

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav noted that a new era of clean energy, green growth, and self-reliant Madhya Pradesh is beginning today. The largest and most advanced compressed bio gas plant in Madhya Pradesh, established by Reliance Industries Limited in the Adampur Cantonment area of Bhopal, was inaugurated. The plant is a manifestation of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s ‘Waste-to-Wealth’ and ‘Energy from Waste’ vision. Its aim is to play a significant role in producing clean and sustainable energy and achieving India’s goal of ‘Net Zero Carbon Emissions’ by 2070. The Bhopal CBG Plant is not just an industrial project but also marks the start of ‘Green Revolution 2.0’.

Reliance officials informed that the Bhopal Compressed Bio-Gas Plant, built at a cost of ₹130 crore over 20 acres, will produce 22.5 tons of biogas daily by utilizing 260 tons of agricultural residues, including stubble and Napier grass. Waste that was once a source of pollution will now become a source of energy, an exemplary model of ‘waste to wealth’. The gas generated from this plant will be used as bio-CNG for vehicles, domestic, and industrial applications, fueling approximately 2,000 auto-rickshaws and small vehicles. The plant is expected to generate over 250 direct and indirect employment opportunities.

Waste-to-Opportunity: A New Model for Waste Management

Company officials explained that this CBG plant uses zero liquid discharge technology and falls under the ‘white category’ of pollution control, making it completely safe for the environment. The project’s technical process is advanced and eco-friendly, utilizing Anaerobic Digestion Technology developed by GPS Renewables (India) and Snow Leopard Projects (Germany). The plant is not just a center for energy production but also a catalyst for changing farmers’ lives. It will help address the problem of stubble burning and provide farmers with an additional source of income from crop residues. Each day, the plant will produce 90 tons of ‘Fermented Organic Manure’, which will be provided to farmers as natural organic fertilizer. This will increase soil organic carbon content, reduce dependency on chemical fertilizers, and improve crop quality.

Other Compressed Bio Gas Plants Emerging Across the State

Besides Bhopal, Reliance Industries is commissioning compressed bio gas plants in Indore and Satna, with Jabalpur’s nearing completion and Balaghat and Sehore under construction. These plants will rejuvenate not only agricultural waste but also barren land and wasteland. In the first phase of the project, a cluster of 100 plants will be established, each with an investment of about ₹120 crore, generating more than 500 direct and indirect jobs per plant. In the coming years, Reliance plans to establish 500 compressed biogas plants across the state.

The virtual inauguration program from Chief Minister’s residence was attended by Chief Secretary Shri Anurag Jain, Additional Chief Secretaries Shri Ashok Barnwal, Shri Neeraj Mandloi, Shri Manu Srivastava, Principal Secretary Industrial Policy and Investment Promotion Shri Raghvendra Kumar Singh, Secretary to Chief Minister Shri Alok Singh, Commissioner Public Relations Shri Deepak Kumar Saxena, Reliance official Shri Ansari and other officials.
