Make Detailed Planning for Essential Facilities on Mahaparinirvan Day – Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar

Mumbai, Nov 2025 : Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar has directed all departments to ensure meticulous planning and coordination for providing necessary facilities to citizens visiting Chaityabhoomi in Dadar, Mumbai, on the occasion of Mahaparinirvan Day — the death anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, which draws lakhs of followers every year.

A meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary at Mantralaya to review the arrangements and facilities to be provided at Chaityabhoomi and Shivaji Park during the Mahaparinirvan Day observance.

The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary Rajesh Aggarwal, Additional Commissioner of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Ashwini Joshi, Principal Secretary and Director General of Information and Public Relations, Brijesh Singh, Mumbai City District Collector Aanchal Goyal, Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti, Additional Divisional Commissioner (Konkan) Siddharam Salimath, Deputy Secretary (Social Justice Department) S.N. Bagul, Deputy Secretary (Urban Development Department) Vidya Hampayya, General Secretary of Mahaparinirvan Day Coordination Committee Nagasen Kamble, and several senior officers from different departments.


Chief Secretary’s Directions

Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar emphasized that adequate arrangements for shelters, drinking water, and other basic amenities must be ensured in and around the Chaityabhoomi premises. He instructed the traffic police to manage and regulate vehicular movement effectively in Dadar and nearby areas to prevent congestion.

He further directed that information boards and signages be installed at key points to guide visitors. Every department, he said, must carry out its assigned responsibilities efficiently and in coordination to ensure smooth management during the event.


Detailed Discussion on Public Facilities

The meeting included detailed discussions on several key aspects such as:

  • Food distribution and meal arrangements
  • Healthcare and emergency medical facilities
  • Security and crowd management
  • Drinking water availability
  • Public sanitation and toilet facilities
  • Cleanliness and waste management
  • Installation of CCTV cameras for monitoring
  • Uninterrupted power supply
  • Book stalls and information kiosks
  • Government publicity and awareness initiatives

During the meeting, Mr. Nagasen Kamble, representing the Mahaparinirvan Day Coordination Committee, put forth several demands and suggestions to improve visitor convenience.

Officials from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) also made a presentation outlining the facilities being arranged by the civic body for the occasion.


Chief Secretary Kumar concluded by stressing that the Mahaparinirvan Day arrangements should reflect discipline, sensitivity, and efficiency, ensuring that the lakhs of followers who come to pay tribute to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar experience comfort, safety, and dignity throughout their visit.
