By 2029, Every Poor Family in Andhra Pradesh Will Own a Home: CM Chandrababu Naidu
Amaravati, Nov 2025 : Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday announced that every homeless poor family in Andhra Pradesh will have their own house by 2029, marking a major step toward the state government’s mission to provide housing for all.
Launching the statewide house distribution programme from Devagudipalle village in Rayachoti mandal of Annamayya district, the Chief Minister handed over house keys to a few beneficiaries and virtually inaugurated housewarming ceremonies across various districts.
Under this phase, three lakh newly constructed houses were handed over to eligible families. Naidu said that another 5.9 lakh houses will be distributed by March 2026, reiterating the government’s commitment to ensure no family remains homeless in the state. “By 2029, every poor person should have their own home. This is the ambition of our alliance government, and we are determined to achieve it,”
— N. Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.
He added that the government is also pursuing another ambitious goal — “one entrepreneur in every household” — to promote self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods among the people.
Rectifying Delays, Reviving Dreams
Recalling the state’s housing journey, Naidu said that during his previous tenure (2014–2019), the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government had constructed eight lakh houses at a cost of ₹16,000 crore.
However, he alleged that the subsequent YSR Congress government cancelled around 4.73 lakh houses and withheld ₹900 crore meant for 2.73 lakh under-construction houses, leaving many poor families stranded.
“The coalition government has now cleared those dues, released the pending funds, and completed the long-pending houses,” Naidu said.
Government Support and Central Collaboration
According to an official statement, the total of 3,00,192 houses handed over includes:
- 2,28,034 under PM Awas Yojana–Urban,
- 65,292 under PM Awas Yojana–Gramin, and
- 6,866 under PM Awas Yojana–Janman.
The Chief Minister noted that the state’s free sand policy played a key role in expediting construction and reducing costs.
Naidu also explained that the Centre provides financial assistance of ₹2.5 lakh per house in urban areas and ₹2 lakh in rural areas. To this, the state government has added a top-up grant of ₹50,000 for BCs and SCs, ₹75,000 for STs, and ₹1 lakh for primitive tribes.
In a new welfare measure, Naidu announced an additional ₹50,000 assistance for Muslim families, expanding the programme’s inclusivity.
Helping Incomplete Home Builders
The Chief Minister revealed that nearly six lakh beneficiaries had earlier stopped building houses due to lack of funds. To help them, the government will release ₹3,220 crore in financial aid.
This initiative will directly benefit 3.75 lakh BC families, 1.57 lakh SC families, 46,000 ST families, and 22,000 tribal households, enabling them to finally complete their homes.
Legacy of Housing for the Poor
Naidu invoked the legacy of TDP founder and former Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao, who pioneered large-scale housing for the poor under the slogan “food, clothing, and shelter for all.”
“The TDP’s mission has always been to provide dignity through home ownership. We are continuing that vision in a new era,” Naidu said.
Inspecting Quality and Facilities
During his visit, the Chief Minister inspected model homes and the photo exhibition showcasing samples of three lakh completed houses across Andhra Pradesh.
Officials informed him that each beneficiary belonging to SC, ST, and BC communities received four bulbs, two tube lights, and two fans worth ₹5,700. Naidu suggested expanding this benefit to all other categories as well.
He further instructed district officials to identify remaining homeless families by December and ensure that new houses are designed to encourage joint family living, promoting stronger social bonds.
With a clear roadmap, additional incentives, and a focus on inclusivity, the Naidu-led government aims to transform Andhra Pradesh into a state where every family has a roof over their head by 2029 — turning the dream of housing for all into a reality.
