TVK Announces Statewide Protest on November 16 Against Voter Roll Revision in Tamil Nadu

Chennai, Nov 2025 : The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor-turned-politician Vijay, has announced a statewide protest on Sunday, November 16, opposing the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls being conducted by the Election Commission of India.

According to party sources, the protests will be held across all district headquarters in Tamil Nadu at 11 a.m., with district secretaries and local leaders instructed to ensure coordinated participation. State-level office-bearers will lead demonstrations in key districts, while zonal and union-level officials will oversee local mobilisation efforts.

Senior TVK leaders said the protest aims to highlight concerns over the transparency and inclusivity of the SIR process. The party fears that procedural lapses in door-to-door verification could result in the exclusion of eligible voters or the deletion of valid names from the rolls.

“This protest is not just political—it’s about protecting every citizen’s democratic right to vote,” a senior functionary said. “Our district units have been asked to reach out to the public, distribute awareness leaflets, and explain how errors in the revision process could affect ordinary voters.”

The party has also directed its local units to collect grievances from residents, including complaints about Booth-Level Officers (BLOs), inaccuracies in draft rolls, and instances of missing names. These findings will be compiled and presented as a formal representation to the Chief Electoral Officer after the protest.

TVK insiders emphasised that the event is being framed as a public awareness campaign rather than a confrontation with the Election Commission. The movement, they said, will reflect TVK’s commitment to democratic participation and accountability.

An official statement from TVK president Vijay is expected soon, outlining the protest’s objectives and urging cadres to maintain discipline and decorum during the demonstrations.

Political observers see this move as a significant step in TVK’s ongoing effort to build grassroots momentum ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The November 16 protest is expected to be TVK’s largest statewide mobilisation since its inception, marking an escalation in its political engagement and signalling the party’s intent to play a more assertive role in state politics.
