Special on World Diabetes Day: NCD Screening Conducted for Health Department Officers and Employees During State-Level Review Meeting
“A Healthy Lifestyle is the Best Medicine” — Health Secretary
Over 38 lakh citizens screened for diabetes and more than 37 lakh for blood pressure in the past seven months
Raipur, Nov 2025 : Ahead of World Diabetes Day, a Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) screening camp was organized during the two-day State-Level Health Review Meeting held at Circuit House, Raipur, under the guidance of Health Secretary Shri Amit Kataria. The initiative aimed to raise awareness among health officers and employees about the importance of early detection, prevention, and regular check-ups for non-communicable diseases.
With rapidly changing lifestyles and unhealthy dietary habits, diabetes has become not just a personal health concern but a major public health challenge. In this context, the Chhattisgarh Health Department has urged citizens to “become guardians of their own health.”
The camp, jointly organized by the Directorate of Health Services, Chhattisgarh, and the District Health Team, Raipur, included screenings for Joint Directors of all divisions, Deputy Directors of programs, Nodal Officers, Chief Medical and Health Officers, Civil Surgeons, District Program Managers, and Hospital Advisors.
Out of 110 participants screened, 41 individuals were found with high blood pressure and 9 with elevated blood sugar levels.
Health Secretary Shri Kataria emphasized that “Healthy citizens form the foundation of a healthy state.” He urged officers to set a positive example by undergoing regular health check-ups themselves and encouraging citizens at the grassroots level to maintain a balanced diet, exercise regularly, manage stress, and lead an addiction-free lifestyle.
To prevent NCDs, the state has developed an integrated system from “screening to service” extending to the community level. Screening, medicine distribution, and counseling services are being provided regularly from Primary Health Centers to District Hospitals.
According to the National NCD Portal, by October 2025, during the 2025–26 financial year, 38,61,980 citizens have been screened for diabetes, and 37,76,077 citizens for hypertension in Chhattisgarh. Among them, 6,88,753 diabetes patients and 11,82,409 hypertension patients have been identified and are receiving treatment, counseling, and regular follow-up services.
The Health Department’s goal is to ensure that every citizen becomes a guardian of their own health — by getting regular check-ups, maintaining a balanced lifestyle, and staying one step ahead of diseases.
On World Diabetes Day, the department’s message is clear:
“Be the guardian of your own health — get regular check-ups and take a step toward a healthier life.”
