Eastern Railways alongside Metro Railways have Organised Vigilance Awareness Seminar.

A seminar on Vigilance Awareness 2025 was organised on 14.11.2025 at the Dr. B. C. Roy Auditorium, Sealdah, by the Vigilance Departments of Eastern Railway and Metro Railway, envisioning the theme “Vigilance: Our Shared Responsibility”.

Mr. Milind Deouskar, General Manager, Eastern Railway; Mr. Subhransu Sekhar Mishra, General Manager, Metro Railway; Mr. Deepak Nigam, Senior Deputy General Manager & Chief Vigilance Officer, Eastern Railway & Metro Railway; and Mr. Anish Prasad, IPS, were among the distinguished speakers on the occasion.

Mr. Milind Deouskar, General Manager, Eastern Railway, lit the ceremonial lamp in the presence of Mr. Subhransu Sekhar Mishra, General Manager, Metro Railway; Mr. Deepak Nigam, Senior Deputy General Manager & Chief Vigilance Officer, Eastern Railway & Metro Railway; and Mr. Anish Prasad, IPS, marking the beginning of the seminar.

The Vigilance Bulletin of Eastern Railway, “JAGRITI”, and the Vigilance Bulletin of Metro Railway, “PRAYAS”, were also released by Mr. Milind Deouskar along with Mr. Subhransu Sekhar Mishra, Mr. Deepak Nigam, and Mr. Anish Prasad.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Deepak Nigam, SDGM & CVO, Eastern Railway & Metro Railway, stated that the Vigilance Department of Eastern Railway is observing Vigilance Awareness Week to promote transparency and fair practices at all levels. He mentioned that Eastern Railway, being a vast network managing freight and passenger services, and Kolkata Metro Railway, a major urban transport system, must maintain spotless practices, as even slight deviations can have significant impact due to the scale of operations.

He elaborated on how the Vigilance Department is moving forward with corrective actions through field visits to divisions, workshops, and hospitals; the use of the iGOT platform; organising seminars; mass awareness campaigns; and other initiatives. Mr. Nigam also informed that due to the continuous efforts of the Vigilance Department, the number of complaints this year has reduced and all pending preventive checks have been completed. These year-round initiatives have strengthened transparency and fairness across Eastern Railway and Metro Railway.

Mr. Milind Deouskar, General Manager, Eastern Railway, stated that vigilance is an intrinsic quality. Every official, he said, becomes a vigilance officer when they follow proper procedures and practices. He emphasised the importance of capacity building at all levels to ensure efficient day-to-day functioning and better public service. He added that all employees should have proper knowledge of rules and procedures to minimize deviations.

Mr. Subhransu Sekhar Mishra, General Manager, Metro Railway, said that vigilance activities help prevent executives from taking wrong decisions and ensure that negligence, including procrastination is avoided for smooth and effective functioning.

Mr. Anish Prasad, IPS, delivered an insightful presentation on Cyber Security, highlighting essential cybercrime mitigating practices to outsmart cyber criminals. He pointed out that cybercrime is increasing rapidly. He shared simple preventive steps that individuals can adopt to protect their financial assets and personal dignity from cyber threats.

Mr. Shailendra Pratap Singh, Additional General Manager, Eastern Railway; Mr. Guru Prakash, Commissioner of Railway Safety, Eastern Circle; Mr. Sumeet Singhal, Commissioner of Railway Safety, North Eastern Region; Principal Officers of Eastern Railway; and other senior officers of Eastern Railway and Metro Railway were also present on the occasion.
