RJD Reaffirms Tejashwi Yadav as Leader of Opposition After Key Review Meeting
Patna, Nov 2025 : The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on Monday conducted a crucial review meeting in Patna to analyse its performance in the recently concluded Bihar Assembly elections. At the centre of the discussion was a significant announcement from party president Lalu Prasad Yadav, who confirmed that Tejashwi Yadav will continue as the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly. The decision ended days of speculation about Tejashwi’s political role and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to move forward under his leadership.
The meeting, attended by senior MLAs and former legislators, focused on understanding why the RJD fell short of its electoral expectations. Leaders noted that the party’s communication at the grassroots level had not been strong enough, especially among women and young voters—two constituencies that played a decisive role in shaping the election outcome. Several leaders claimed that rival parties may have influenced women voters by offering them ₹10,000, a matter the RJD intends to examine in detail.
According to sources present during the review, Tejashwi Yadav expressed readiness to work merely as a party cadre and even suggested he was willing to step aside if the organisation felt it necessary. However, senior leaders vehemently opposed this idea, insisting that Tejashwi remain the Leader of the Opposition. Their unanimous endorsement reflected a strong internal consensus and reinforced their belief in his leadership capabilities.
Lalu Prasad Yadav accepted the collective recommendation without hesitation. Addressing the assembled leaders, he reassured them by saying, “Any internal dispute will be resolved internally, so there is no need for concern.” His remark helped ease anxieties within the party and reinforced his role as the key unifying force within the organisation.
With the leadership debate settled, the RJD has now directed all its MLAs to adopt a more assertive and vocal stance in the Assembly. The party intends to rebuild momentum by addressing organisational gaps identified during the review.
Looking ahead, the RJD plans to refocus its strategy on strengthening grassroots engagement and amplifying issues of public concern. Under Tejashwi Yadav’s continued leadership, the party aims to overcome the setbacks of the recent election and position itself more effectively for future political challenges in Bihar.
