Delhi’s Transport Revolution Continues: CM Rekha Gupta Flags Off 40 New Electric Buses

“Our Government Has Achieved Historic Improvements in Just Eight Months”: CM Rekha Gupta

“Bus Strength Continuously Increased Based on Route Demand”: Transport Minister Dr Pankaj Singh

New Delhi, Nov 2025 : Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta said that her government is continuously working to make the capital’s public transport system world-class and environmentally sustainable. As part of this mission, the government has set a new milestone by deploying 1,400 electric buses on the city’s roads within just eight months of taking office.

The Chief Minister shared these details while inaugurating the newly redeveloped state-of-the-art DTC bus terminal at Azadpur today. During the event, she also flagged off 40 new electric buses, marking another major step in Delhi’s transport modernisation.

Transport Minister Dr Pankaj Kumar Singh, local MLA Rajkumar Bhatia, senior officials from the Transport Department and DTC, and other dignitaries were also present.

The Chief Minister said that every transformation visible in Delhi today is the result of the people’s trust and mandate. “The public chose change, and the government has converted that mandate into development and service,” she said. She added that while past governments neglected Delhi’s transport system, the present administration has set a new record by introducing 1,400 electric buses in just eight months. The government remains committed to making Delhi’s public transport world-class, comfortable, and pollution-free.

Referring to past irregularities and flawed policies that weakened the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), the Chief Minister said the current government is determined to rebuild DTC as a strong, efficient and financially sound organisation. Modern bus terminals, advanced electric buses and enhanced connectivity will ensure safer, cleaner and more comfortable travel for all commuters, she added.

Speaking on the occasion, Transport Minister Dr Pankaj Kumar Singh said the redevelopment of the Azadpur Bus Terminal marks a significant milestone in strengthening Delhi’s public transport network. Under the leadership of CM Rekha Gupta, Delhi is witnessing rapid improvements in passenger amenities, travel safety, environmental conservation and modern mobility.

He added that the redeveloped terminal is equipped with modern waiting areas, a baby-feeding room, a bus pass section, lockers, passenger utilities, shaded platforms, solar panels, CCTV surveillance, bio-digesters, and green energy systems. The 40 newly launched electric buses are low-floor, air-conditioned, and equipped with CCTV cameras, panic buttons, and real-time GPS tracking.

Dr Singh further said that the Transport Department is continuously expanding bus availability based on route demand, and this process will continue at an accelerated pace. To enhance passenger convenience, the terminal also features digital screens, clear signage, and a public announcement system. A total of 116 buses, most of them electric, will operate from this terminal across 21 major routes.
