Ineligible Farmers in Buldhana and Chandrapur Districts to Receive Insurance Amount Immediately – Agriculture Minister Dhananjay Munde
Mumbai : Following natural calamities in Chandrapur and Buldhana, which have damaged crops and agriculture, immediate actions are required to compensate affected farmers. Agriculture Minister Dhananjay Munde has directed that insurance payments be made to all eligible farmers who have purchased crop insurance, as well as to other affected farmers under the National Disaster Relief Fund. He also instructed that by August 31st, actions be taken to review and approve payments to farmers who were disqualified by crop insurance companies without valid reasons.
Minister Munde reviewed the measures taken by the concerned companies regarding Kharif and Rabi crops under the Pradhan Mantri Crop Insurance Scheme for the affected farmers in Chandrapur and Buldhana districts.
Forest Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar provided information on the losses faced by farmers in Chandrapur district and instructed company representatives to ensure compensation is given to all eligible farmers.
For the Rabi season of 2023, Rs. 119 crores, and for the Kharif season, Rs. 55 crores have been allocated, with an additional Rs. 127 crores and 74 lakhs pending for Chandrapur district. Similar measures have been taken for Buldhana district. All representatives expressed gratitude to Minister Munde for these actions.
Minister Munde noted that a total of 3,50,969 farmers had applied for insurance through Oriental Insurance Company under the Pradhan Mantri Crop Insurance Scheme in Chandrapur district. The insurance company should promptly distribute funds to the 3,41,233 eligible farmers. Additionally, due to delays in providing reasons for disqualification, the 9,736 affected farmers should be immediately requalified and compensated. Compensation of Rs. 208 crores has been sanctioned, with Rs. 80 crores allocated and Rs. 127 crores in the process of being allocated.
In Buldhana district, 2,051 farmers have received assessments, and 2,030 farmers have been surveyed. Reasons for any farmers not surveyed should be provided immediately. The Indian Agricultural Insurance Company should requalify 1,318 disqualified farmers and pay the insurance amounts. The concerned companies must act swiftly to ensure justice for farmers in both districts, or face action from Minister Munde.
Minister Munde has ordered the payment of insurance amounts to all farmers in Buldhana district who faced delays exceeding 73 hours in filing objections regarding crop insurance or those who submitted offline complaints. All complaints should be addressed and resolutions provided by August 31st.
