Sardar @150 Commemoration March Held in Serchhip
Serchhip, Nov 2025: Serchhip Deputy Commissioner Pu Paul L. Khuma today flagged off the Sardar @150 Unity March in Serchhip. The march started from Government Higher Secondary School, Serchhip, and proceeded up to Serchhip Bawrhsap Pisapui.
After starting from Government Higher Secondary School, the Unity March culminated at Leisekawt Field, where a cultural programme was held. Speaking at the event, Serchhip SP Pu Gavit Gogna explained the significance of organising the Unity March. He stated that India is a nation comprising various regions and princely states that were once governed by different rulers. The India we know today took shape after independence from British rule. Many princely states were integrated into the Union of India due to the efforts of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and other national leaders. Because of his pivotal role in unifying the country, the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Patel is being observed with great importance this year, he added.
A pledge-taking ceremony was also conducted during the Unity March. District Urban Development Officer (DUDO) Pu Vanlalhriatpuia administered a pledge on cleanliness and responsible citizenship, urging students to lead by example. Participants in the march also conducted a cleanliness drive along the route, taking part in awareness and sanitation activities.
Government employees, school children, and local residents actively participated in the march. The concluding programme was held at the Serchhip DC Office premises, where Deputy Commissioner Pu Paul L. Khuma delivered remarks. He highlighted the importance of unity, cooperation, and collective progress, appealing to citizens to uphold harmony and togetherness in families, churches, government institutions, and all workplaces through the message of the Unity March.
Apart from the speeches at Leisekawt Field and the DC Office, various Mizo cultural performances were presented by the Serchhip Sub Headquarters YMA Cultural Troupe. Pi F. Lalruatmawii from Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat) Serchhip expressed gratitude, bringing the event to a close.
