Discussion on National Highway 306 & 06 Repair Works and Water Pipe Issues Chaired by Kolasib DC

Kolasib, Nov 2025: Today, a meeting was held at the DC Conference Hall under the chairmanship of Pu Robert C. Lalhmangaiha, Deputy Commissioner, regarding the ongoing repair works on National Highways 306 and 06, where contractors have been unable to carry out work efficiently due to the presence of water pipelines along the road.

These pipelines are private water connection pipes, and since the road construction will require them to be cut or removed, it may cause inconvenience to the public. Therefore, discussions were held on how best to handle this issue.

During the meeting, NHIDCL and the contractors were instructed to coordinate with the PHE Department to identify the areas where pipes need to be removed, and to discuss the procedure for doing so. Since the private water connections belong to individual households, the cost of reinstalling or repairing these pipes must be borne by the respective owners. For this reason, it was suggested that Village Council authorities and private pipe owners should be continuously consulted. It was stressed that such cooperation is necessary for the smooth progress of the ongoing road construction works.

The meeting also discussed cases where water connection pipes are found lying exposed under roads and internal city roads, and where these pipelines have caused prolonged obstruction to road repairs. It was noted that PWD officials were not present, and they would need to be informed so that work can proceed more efficiently.

The meeting was attended by Pu Lalrinpuia Varte, Sr. SP; Pi B. Malsawmtluangi, Addl. DC; Pu Lalmuan Puia, DLAO; officials from the PHE Department; DUDO; DIPRO; NHIDCL; representatives from Jandu Contractor; and members of the MJA.
