Telangana Governor Clears ACB to Prosecute KTR in Formula E Race Case
Hyderabad, Nov 2025 : BRS Working President and former minister K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) is set to face prosecution in the Formula E race case after Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma granted sanction to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to proceed with its investigation.
The Governor’s approval paves the way for the ACB to advance legal action against KTR over alleged procedural and financial irregularities linked to the marquee event held during the previous BRS regime. With the sanction in place, the ACB is expected to soon file a chargesheet in the case, which centres on the alleged misappropriation of nearly ₹54.88 crore.
Earlier, the ACB had booked KTR, senior IAS officer Arvind Kumar, and former HMDA Chief Engineer B.L.N. Reddy under the Prevention of Corruption Act and relevant sections of the IPC. Investigators allege that payments connected to the Formula E event were processed in violation of established government rules and without mandatory approvals. The race, originally scheduled for February 2024, was subsequently cancelled by the newly elected Congress government.
KTR has consistently dismissed all allegations, asserting that the decision to host the Formula E race was taken in the interest of promoting Hyderabad as a global destination for innovation and sport. He has further challenged his critics, publicly stating that he is willing to undergo a lie-detector test to establish his innocence.
The ACB’s next steps, including the filing of the chargesheet, are expected to determine the trajectory of the high-profile case.
