Creation Of A Support Framework For Mizo Migrants – Meeting In Australia Attended By Mp K. Vanlalvena As Special Guest
On 10 November 2025, in Brisbane, the capital of Queensland, Australia, three organisations — the Humanitarian Assistance & Disaster Relief Institute (HADRI), the Australian Chin Community Council (ACCC), and the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) — signed an agreement aimed at providing assistance and support to Mizos currently living outside Mizoram.
At this agreement-signing meeting, Rajya Sabha MP K. Vanlalvena was the special guest, and Queensland Senator Paul Scarr also attended as a guest of honour.
The agreement is valid for three years. It was signed by HADRI CEO Mitchell King, HADRI Managing Director and Australia Chin Community leader Lawmthanga (Brisbane), and MZP General Headquarters General Secretary Lalhmingsanga.
On 15 November 2025, members of the Matu community, a smaller group within the broader Mizo tribe living in Queensland, celebrated their annual Matu Pawlkut festival. Rajya Sabha MP K. Vanlalvena attended as Chief Guest. Other distinguished guests included:
– Cameron Dick, Deputy Leader of the Opposition (Labour Party)
– John Raven, Mayor of Logan City
– Heather Castledine, Australian Indigenous Leader
– Senator Paul Scarr (LNP Party)
Members of the African-Australian community, the Australian Indigenous community, and three Brisbane Councillors also participated in the celebration.
Leaders of the Matu Community in Australia submitted a formal request to MP Vanlalvena, asking for help to ensure that 15 Matu sub-tribes are included in the Mizo Scheduled Tribe list in India. They presented their appeal in both written and verbal form.
On the night of 16 November 2025, the Australian Chin Community Council organised a conference of various Chin tribal groups in Brisbane. Rajya Sabha MP K. Vanlalvena attended as guest of honour, along with MZP General Secretary Lalhmingsanga.
In his speech, MP Vanlalvena emphasised the importance of remaining connected to one’s homeland regardless of where one lives in the world. He said the unity of the Zo people across different regions is essential. He added that efforts to elevate only one’s own sub-tribe without considering others weaken the collective growth and welfare of all Zo communities.
He stressed that to ensure unity, Zo people must preserve and speak the Mizo language, which should serve as a common language among all related groups. He also warned that without unity, any initiative or gathering loses its true meaning.
He explained that internal conflicts among brothers and sisters never bring good outcomes. He said the development and progress of all Zo people can only come through loyalty to God, and no tribe should try to dominate or overpower others. He added that God has blessed each community with its own land, and these lands should be respected.
He further said that those facing hardships back home depend heavily on the help and support of those living in foreign countries, and therefore expatriate communities must continue to assist them with perseverance.
This Chin tribal conference was organised under the leadership of ACCC Chairperson Nl. Judith Hnemtein.
