PM Modi Launches Australia-Canada-India Technology and Innovation Partnership at G20 Summit

Johannesburg, Nov 2025 Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced a major new trilateral initiative—the Australia-Canada-India Technology and Innovation (ACITI) Partnership—following a high-level meeting with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg.

Sharing the announcement, PM Modi wrote, “Had an excellent meeting with Anthony Albanese, PM of Australia, and Mark Carney, PM of Canada on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg. We are delighted to announce an Australia-Canada-India Technology and Innovation (ACITI) Partnership today.”

The ACITI Partnership is designed to deepen cooperation among the three democracies in critical areas of technology, innovation, and sustainable development. Outlining its vision, PM Modi said the initiative would strengthen collaboration across three continents and three oceans, focusing on emerging technologies, supply chain diversification, clean energy solutions, and the mass adoption of artificial intelligence.

The trilateral framework aims to bolster joint research, accelerate technology exchanges, and enhance resilience in global supply chains at a time when the world faces rapid technological shifts and geopolitical uncertainties. The partnership is also expected to drive cooperation in green technologies, support energy transitions, and encourage responsible innovation in AI.

“We look forward to working together to guarantee a better future for the coming generations,” PM Modi said, emphasizing that ACITI reflects the shared democratic values and forward-looking priorities of the three nations.

The announcement coincided with India’s call for reforms in global development indicators and the establishment of new international mechanisms to counter emerging threats. Earlier in the day, PM Modi urged G20 members to consider creating a global initiative to tackle the drug-terror nexus and proposed forming a global healthcare response team to strengthen preparedness for future health crises.

The Prime Minister also held bilateral meetings with several world leaders, including UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. He described his discussion with Guterres as “very productive,” noting that it covered a wide range of global issues.

With the launch of ACITI, India has taken a significant step toward building a stronger technology-driven partnership with like-minded democracies, reinforcing its role as a key driver of innovation and global cooperation at the G20.
