Deputy Chief Minister Gifts Scooter to Differently-Abled Anganwadi Worker in Forest Region

Raipur, Nov 2025 : A tribal woman, Ms. Sunita Dhurve, from the forest village of Dhamindehi—who has been unable to walk since birth—received a tremendous boost of confidence when Deputy Chief Minister and local Kawardha MLA Vijay Sharma gifted her a scooter. Despite her physical challenges, Sunita has been serving as an Anganwadi worker and steadily moving toward self-reliance while overcoming numerous daily hardships.

On 16 November, when Mr. Sharma visited Rengakhar, Sunita informed him about her physical condition and the difficulties she faced in her daily life, and submitted a request for a scooter. Just 10 days later, she received a brand-new vehicle.

On Wednesday, 26 November, when Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma handed over the scooter at the Kawardha MLA office, Sunita was overwhelmed with joy. She said she has been differently-abled since birth and unable to walk. For the past nine years, she has been working as an Anganwadi worker in Dhamindehi village of Bodla block. Commuting for work had always been a major challenge for her. Whether it was reporting for any scheme or attending meetings, she had to travel to the Chilphi project office located 40 km away, often relying on others for help. As a woman, depending on others for mobility had become increasingly difficult and affected the timely completion of her duties.

She had previously received a tricycle, but paddling it caused severe pain in her hands.

Emotionally recalling the moment, Sunita said, “When Vijay Bhaiya visited the Rengakhar forest on November 16, I shared my difficulties with him. He listened to me with great concern. Even before I could formally ask for help, he discussed the matter with officials and directed them to provide me with assistive devices and a scooter. Today, I have received the scooter. I am extremely grateful to Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma for showing such sensitivity and supporting me immediately. Now I can travel anywhere without difficulty and perform my work more effectively.”

Under the compassionate initiative of Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, more than 100 differently-abled individuals in the Kawardha Assembly constituency have received petrol-powered scooters over the past two years. With these scooters, beneficiaries are now able to participate in daily tasks, education, employment, and social activities with greater ease and confidence.
