New MD Courses Launched at SIMS Bilaspur — Three Departments Receive Approval, Major Increase in Seats

Raipur, Nov 2025 : The Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS), Bilaspur, has set a new record in academic expansion this year. Last year, the institute had a total of 68 approved MD and MS seats. In the current session, with an addition of 21 new seats, the total number has increased to 89. The admission process for these seats is currently underway.

Significant progress has also been made towards introducing new MD courses at SIMS.
The Physiology Department and the TB & Chest Department have received approval to start new MD programmes, each with 4 seats. The State Government has issued the Essentiality Certificate for both these subjects.

Faster Process for Re-accreditation of TB & Chest Department
Earlier, the TB & Chest Department was derecognized by the NMC due to the unfortunate demise of the Head of Department, Prof. Dr. Puneet Bhardwaj, which left the department without faculty at the professor level.

Dean Dr. Ramanesh Murti submitted a request to the NMC for reconsideration. Following this, the government promoted Dr. Prateek Kumar to the post of Professor, bringing the department back in compliance with NMC standards. Based on this, the department has now received the Essentiality Certificate as well.

Increase in Seats in the Medicine Department
The government has also increased the intake capacity of the MD programme in the Medicine Department. Earlier, 8 seats were approved; this has now been raised to 13. The Essentiality Certificate has also been issued for this department.

Final Process Now with University and NMC
The SIMS administration is now submitting applications to the Ayush & Health Sciences University for affiliation of the courses in all three departments—Physiology, TB & Chest, and Medicine.

Once the university grants affiliation, applications will be sent to the National Medical Commission (NMC) for final approval.

These new courses and increased seats will not only enhance the academic capacity of the institute but will also open up greater opportunities for medical students in the state to pursue specialized training.
