Gujarat NH Projects Reviewed in Meeting Chaired by Union Minister Gadkari
Gandhinagar, Nov 2025: A high-level meeting was held in Gandhinagar to conduct an extensive review of the completed and ongoing works under the National Highway projects in Gujarat, chaired by Union Minister for Road Transport Shri Nitin Gadkari and in presence of Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel.
In this meeting, the Union Minister issued firm instructions to officers and contractors that the quality of roads must be of the highest standard, and that citizen convenience and safety must remain top priorities. He stated that no negligence will be tolerated in the construction and resurfacing of national highways. Furthermore, if road construction works are not completed within the stipulated deadlines or negligence is found, strict action will be taken, including blacklisting the contractor.
During the meeting, the CM stated that since the National Highways in the state carry over 35% of the total traffic load, they should be properly repaired, and if required, the NHAI should also take up expansion works. He particularly urged that the ongoing works on the Ahmedabad–Mumbai, Rajkot–Gondal–Jetpur, and Ahmedabad–Udaipur highways be fast-tracked.
Responding ly to the representation made by Chief Minister, Union Minister assured during the meeting that the Central Government will approve Rs. 20,000 crore for highways and other NHAI projects in Gujarat.
A presentation was also made in the meeting by the National Highways Authority of India regarding the works completed so far under the National Highway projects in Gujarat, as well as various upcoming projects to be undertaken by NHAI and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Detailed discussions were held on the current status of various national highways in Gujarat, the scheduled timelines for road works, and by when the remaining works will be completed.
Chief Secretary Shri M.K. Das provided details on the ongoing highway and road works by the Government of Gujarat and the coordination with the Central Government.
This review meeting was attended by the Principal Advisor to CM Dr Hasmukh Adhia, Advisor Shri S.S. Rathore, Additional Chief Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, Additional Principal Secretary to CM Smt Avantika Singh, Secretary Dr Vikrant Pandey, and senior officers from the Union Ministry of Road Transport, NHAI, the Roads & Buildings Department, and other concerned divisions.
