Rajasthan Builds 14,500+ Water Structures Under ‘Karmabhoomi se Matribhoomi’ Campaign

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, the ‘Karmabhoomi se Matribhoomi’ campaign is being successfully implemented — A major achievement in water conservation and recharge with the construction of over 14,500 water structures across the state

Jaipur, Nov 2025 : Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Catch the Rain’ initiative, the ‘Karmabhoomi se Matribhoomi’ campaign is playing a crucial role in water conservation, augmentation, and groundwater recharge in Rajasthan. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, the campaign has given significant momentum to the vision of conserving rainwater and making Rajasthan self-reliant in the water sector by constructing more than 14,500 water conservation structures across the state.

The primary goal of this campaign is to encourage non-resident Rajasthanis living away from their homeland to contribute meaningfully to water conservation efforts in their native villages. With the support of non-resident Rajasthanis, philanthropists, crowd-funding platforms, and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, the campaign aims to construct around 45,000 recharge and water conservation structures over four years.

Launched this January across 11,195 gram panchayats in 41 districts, the campaign has achieved significant milestones in a short period. Village Development Officers across the state selected 42,081 recharge sites using the e-Panchayat mobile app. Out of these, over 14,500 groundwater recharge and water conservation structures have already been completed.

It is noteworthy that the ‘Karmabhoomi se Matribhoomi’ campaign has been initiated not only to improve groundwater levels, but also to enhance public awareness. Key objectives include promoting collective efforts for the sustainability and rejuvenation of water sources, encouraging rainwater harvesting, and boosting groundwater recharge activities through defunct hand pumps, dried wells, and tube wells.

Committee formed under the Chief Minister for effective monitoring of the campaign

For smooth implementation and proper monitoring of the campaign, a 31-member State Committee for the ‘Karmabhoomi se Matribhoomi’ initiative has been constituted under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister.
A 20-member State-Level Steering Committee, chaired by the Chief Secretary, has been formed to ensure effective departmental coordination, convergence of efforts, resolution of implementation challenges, and monitoring of overall progress.
Similarly, at the district level, a 17-member District Committee headed by the District Collector has been set up. The Ground Water Department serves as the nodal agency for the campaign.

Additional initiatives: ‘Vande Ganga Jal Sanrakshan–Jan Abhiyan’

Apart from this campaign, the state government, under the Chief Minister’s leadership, also launched the ‘Vande Ganga Jal Sanrakshan–Jan Abhiyan’ this year, which has given new direction to water conservation and harvesting efforts. Under this initiative, activities such as repair and cleaning of water bodies, improvement of drainage systems, removal of encroachments, community labour contribution in dam areas, plantation drives, and construction of water storage and water conservation structures were carried out across the state.

This extensive and coordinated effort is strengthening Rajasthan’s water security and creating a sustainable model for future generations.
