Congress Criticises PM Modi’s Approach on First Day of Winter Session

New Delhi, Dec 2025 : On the first day of the Winter Session of Parliament, Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge sharply criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that the Prime Minister “once again delivered drama” instead of addressing key issues confronting the nation.

Kharge shared his remarks on X, stating: “On the first day of the Winter Session, the Prime Minister, @narendramodi, has once again delivered drama instead of addressing the core issues before Parliament.” He went on to accuse the government of consistently undermining parliamentary norms and the dignity of the institution over the past 11 years.

“The reality is that the government has continuously crushed parliamentary dignity and the democratic system for the last 11 years, and there is a long list of such incidents,” Kharge said.

Kharge highlighted that during the last Monsoon Session, at least 12 bills were passed in haste, with some debated for less than 15 minutes and others without any discussion at all. He specifically cited contentious legislation including the so-called “anti-farmer black laws,” GST amendments, and the Indian Civil Security Code, which, he claimed, were “bulldozed through Parliament.”

The Congress leader also accused the Prime Minister of remaining silent on critical national issues. “When the issue of Manipur was raised in Parliament, you remained silent until the Opposition brought a no-confidence motion,” he said.

Kharge further expressed concern over the workload of Booth Level Officers (BLOs), who, he claimed, are facing severe stress and losing their lives due to the ongoing Special Intensive Review (SIR) process.

“The Opposition wants to prioritise issues such as alleged ‘vote theft’ and will continue to raise them in Parliament,” Kharge said. He added, “BJP should now end the drama of diversion and debate the real issues of the public in Parliament. The truth is that the common man is struggling with unemployment, inflation, economic inequality, and plunder of the country’s resources, while those in power engage in theatrics in the arrogance of authority.”

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh also voiced strong criticism of the Prime Minister on X, accusing him of consistently avoiding Parliament and undermining its role. “The PM never engages with the Opposition, yet before every session, he stands outside Parliament and speaks grandly to the nation, asking for constructive cooperation to ensure smooth functioning,” Ramesh said.

He added: “If Parliament doesn’t function smoothly, the fault lies entirely with the PM and his refusal to allow the Opposition to raise issues of urgent public importance. He always wants his way without allowing the Opposition to speak. His statements before Parliament begin are nothing but hypocrisy. The biggest dramabaaz of them all is talking of drama.”

The comments from Kharge and Ramesh underscore the growing tension between the Opposition and the government, setting the stage for what is expected to be a contentious Winter Session.
