New Delhi, Dec 2025 : Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta today attended the grand inaugural ceremony of the Indian Pickleball League (IPBL), held at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium. This distinctive initiative marks a significant step towards promoting new sports in the country, expanding the sporting culture among the youth, and connecting players with a broader platform.

The Chief Minister said that the Indian Pickleball League is not merely a competition, but a significant endeavour to make India’s growing sports ecosystem even more dynamic and robust. Calling it a major opportunity for young people, she said that such events provide new and talented players with recognition, encouragement, and the pathway to progress.

Appreciating the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister said that the Prime Minister has transformed sports into a symbol of India’s new national culture and youthful energy. His consistent guidance and encouragement have led to unprecedented enthusiasm, participation, and commitment towards sports across the country making the Indian sports ecosystem stronger and more vibrant than ever before.

The Chief Minister further said that India has always been a nation of sports, and embracing new sporting disciplines has long been part of our culture. She added that the government will integrate this league, launched by the Times Group, into Delhi’s schools, sporting events, and youth programmes so that this sport can become exciting and popular among all. The Chief Minister extended her best wishes to all players participating in the competition.

What is Pickleball?

Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. It is played on a badminton-sized court using a plastic ball and solid paddles similar to rackets. The sport can be played in singles or doubles. It was invented in 1965 in the United States as a recreational activity.
