Integrated Food & Drug Testing Laboratory to be Built on 1.5 Acres in Nawa Raipur

Another major announcement from the 2025–26 Budget fulfilled; Administrative approval of ₹46.49 crore granted

Raipur, Dec 2025 : In line with the vision of Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai, the state government has granted administrative approval of ₹46 crore 49 lakh 45 thousand for the construction of the proposed Integrated Food and Drug Testing Laboratory along with the FDA building in Nawa Raipur. As per the provisions of the 2025–26 main budget, this major project will significantly enhance the state’s capacity for food and drug testing.

A 1.5-acre land parcel in Nawa Raipur has been allotted for setting up the new Integrated Food & Drug Testing Laboratory and the new FDA building. The existing laboratory in Raipur is currently operating in about 5,000 sq ft (ground, first, and second floors). The proposed new laboratory will be equipped with state-of-the-art drug and enforcement testing instruments and will be built across 30,000 sq ft (ground, first, second, and third floors).

With this new facility, the capacity for chemical testing will increase from the present 500–800 samples per year to 7,000–8,000 samples per year. Microbiological testing (including injections, eye drops, etc.) will cover 2,000 samples annually. Additionally, 500 samples per year of medical devices—such as gloves and catheters—which are currently not tested, will now be examined. Pharmaceutical sample testing will also increase significantly, from the existing 50 samples to 1,000 samples per year.

Health Minister Shri Shyam Bihari Jaiswal expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai for the approval, stating that the laboratory will strengthen the state’s food safety framework. He added that the testing process will become more convenient, transparent, and efficient. The government is fully committed to ensuring that citizens receive pure, certified, and high-quality food products and medicines.

The Health Minister further stated that the modern laboratory being constructed in Nawa Raipur will serve as a model facility for the state and will play a crucial role in strengthening public health systems.
