Proposed Visit of Chief Minister: Bhajanlal Sharma to Lay Foundation for Firozpur Feeder Reconstruction – ₹647.62 Crore Project Shared Between Rajasthan and Punjab

Completion of 100 Years of Ganganahar; Strengthened Canal System to Benefit Farmers – 3.14 Lakh Hectares to Receive Water, Boosting Crop Production

Jaipur, Dec 2025: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma, Rajasthan’s canal system is being strengthened. In this context, Shri Sharma will lay the foundation for the reconstruction of the Firozpur Feeder on 5th December. This will ensure adequate water supply in the Ganganahar throughout the year, allowing farmers to irrigate their Rabi and Kharif crops as per their requirements.

The reconstruction of the Firozpur Feeder will include CC lining from RD 0 to 168.230, reconstruction of 2 head regulators, construction of 1 new head regulator, reconstruction of 1 cross regulator, reconstruction of 19 VRB/DRB structures, and rebuilding 3 railway crossing bridges. These development works will channel additional water coming to the Harike Barrage into the Firozpur Feeder, directly benefiting Ganganahar. As a result, farmers in the 3.14 lakh hectare area served by Ganganahar will benefit, and crop production is expected to increase.

On the initiative of Shri Sharma, the 2024-25 budget had allocated ₹200 crore for the reconstruction of the Firozpur Feeder. The Central Water Commission has approved the DPR for this work. The total project cost is ₹647.62 crore, with Punjab’s share at ₹379.12 crore and Rajasthan’s share at ₹268.50 crore.

It is noteworthy that on 5th December 1925, the late Maharaja Shri Ganga Singh had laid the foundation of Ganganahar. On this historic occasion in 2025, marking the 100th anniversary of the project, Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma will lay the foundation for the Firozpur Feeder reconstruction. This will increase the total water carrying capacity of the Firozpur Feeder.
