Lunglei District Provides Compensation of ₹47.52 Lakh for ASF-Affected Pigs
Lunglei, Dec 2025 : The Animal Husbandry & Veterinary (AH & Vety) Department in Lunglei District has provided compensation amounting to ₹47.52 lakh to households affected by African Swine Fever (ASF) during the year 2024. The compensation was distributed among 599 affected households. In total, 1,188 pigs were affected in the district. The disbursement is being made in three installments, with the next installment scheduled to be credited to beneficiaries’ bank accounts on 2nd December 2025.
African Swine Fever, which caused significant losses, has been recognized as a State-Specific Disaster in 2024 by the Mizoram State Disaster Management Authority. Accordingly, compensation for ASF-affected pigs is being provided through the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF). Under this scheme, each affected pig is eligible for ₹4,000, and a single household can receive compensation for up to six pigs.
