Athletics Steal the Spotlight on Second Day at Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Team Games Add Thrill

Raipur, December 2025 : On the second day of the inter-zone (university-level) sports competition 2025–26 at Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Raipur, track-and-field events dominated the spotlight, while team games added excitement to the sports arena. From morning until late evening, the competitions showcased the athletes’ speed, stamina, and sportsmanship. A total of 160 players participated in today’s events, which included finals for individual competitions such as the 1500 meters, 200 meters, long jump, and shot put.

In the women’s 1500-meter race, Kaushalya Dodi from the North Zone delivered a stellar performance to claim first place. Sumati Mandavi from the South Zone finished second, while Priyanka Diwan secured third. In the men’s category, Bhuvneshwar Yadav from the South Zone won gold, Haresh Kurram from the East Zone took silver, and Anant Ram Kashyap from the North Zone claimed bronze.

The 200-meter sprint also witnessed impressive speed. In the women’s category, Sandhya Netam of the East Zone won gold, Khemelata Gota of the North Zone earned silver, and Punika Chandravanshi of the West Zone took bronze. Among men, Krishan Pratap Singh of the North Zone secured first place, Kunal Rawate of the East Zone second, and Ganesh Seth of the West Zone third.

In field events, the men’s shot put gold went to Gajendra of the East Zone, silver to Dheeraj Kumar of the North Zone, and bronze to Saurabh of the West Zone. In the women’s shot put, Harsha of the North Zone won first, Hemanshu second, and Pranika of the East Zone third.

For the men’s long jump, Samir Singh from the North Zone took gold, Arush Verma from the South Zone won silver, and Gaurav Varia from the East Zone secured bronze. In the women’s long jump, Sandhya Netam of the East Zone claimed her second gold of the day, Akanksha Meshram of the South Zone took silver, and Kaushalya Dodi of the North Zone won bronze.

Alongside athletics, league matches in volleyball, kabaddi, badminton, kho-kho, and table tennis were also held today. Teams from all four zones demonstrated excellent coordination and sportsmanship, presenting thrilling contests. With these team game results, the points competition among the zones has intensified, and the overall champion will be decided after tomorrow’s relay races and remaining events.
