India Set to Become World’s Largest Developer Community by 2030, Says Satya Nadella

New Delhi, Dec 2025 : India is poised to become the world’s largest developer community by 2030, Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella said on Wednesday, highlighting the country’s rapidly expanding talent pool and its rising influence in the global AI landscape.

Speaking at an event in the national capital, Nadella said India’s technology ecosystem is undergoing a profound transformation as new tools and platforms reshape how software is designed, built, and deployed.
“India is projected to have 57.5 million developers by 2030, making it the largest developer base globally,” he noted, calling it a historic opportunity for India to build “societal-scale solutions” powered by artificial intelligence.

Nadella emphasized that Indian developers are already at the forefront of the AI revolution, using platforms such as GitHub, Azure, and Microsoft’s latest AI development tools to work on projects that previously required sophisticated research facilities. This, he said, is helping democratize innovation and accelerate the creation of advanced digital solutions.

He outlined Microsoft’s new AI “tool chain” designed to help developers build multi-agent AI systems and next-generation applications. The suite includes AppBuilder, Copilot Studio, and Foundry, which together enable developers to design, evaluate, and deploy AI models tailored to specific use cases.

Discussing the future of software development, Nadella said the shift is no longer about relying on a single dominant AI model but about empowering developers with an ecosystem that lets them choose the best tools and models for their needs.
“Microsoft is investing heavily in this ecosystem so developers — especially in India — can build applications that integrate seamlessly with the data and systems businesses already rely on,” he said.

His remarks came a day after Microsoft announced a major commitment to India’s AI ambitions. Following a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Nadella revealed that Microsoft will invest $17.5 billion over the next four years — the company’s largest investment in Asia.

In a post on X, Nadella thanked the Prime Minister for an “inspiring conversation on India’s AI opportunity,” adding that the multibillion-dollar commitment will help India build the infrastructure, skills, and sovereign capabilities essential for an AI-first future.
