“Aman Sehrawat Makes History: India’s Youngest Olympic Bronze Medalist!”

Wrestler Aman Sehrawat has made Olympic history by becoming India’s youngest Olympian to win a bronze medal in the 57 kg freestyle category, achieving this feat just under a month after his 21st birthday. This victory marks India’s sixth medal at the Paris Olympics 2024. Sehrawat, who competed in the bronze medal match on August 9, overcame Derian Toi Cruz of Puerto Rico with a score of 13-5. Despite sustaining a nose injury during the match, Sehrawat’s resilience shone through, earning him a place as the seventh Indian wrestler to secure an Olympic medal.

Before the match, Sehrawat faced challenges with his weight, which had increased to 61.5 kg after his semi-final loss. To manage this, he undertook rigorous efforts to shed 4.6 kg, including jogging in the gym late at night and strictly controlling his diet. Sehrawat revealed that he brought his own food from India to maintain his weight, emphasizing his commitment to diet and fitness as critical to his preparation.

Originally from Birohar in Jhajjar district, Haryana, Sehrawat was inspired by Sushil Kumar’s silver medal in the 2012 Olympics to pursue wrestling seriously. He moved to Delhi’s Chhatrasal Stadium at age 10. Tragically, he lost both parents to separate illnesses when he was just 11. Despite the profound personal loss, Sehrawat has honored their memory by striving to become an accomplished wrestler, with his parents’ dreams of his success remaining a motivating force.
