Adani Green Retains Top Spot as India’s Leading Sustainability Performer

Mumbai, Dec 2025 : Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) on Friday announced that it has once again been recognised among India’s highest-ranked companies in sustainability, strengthening its leadership in the country’s renewable energy sector.

In the latest sustainability ratings released by the National Stock Exchange (NSE) for the financial year 2025, AGEL earned an overall ESG score of 78, an improvement from 74 last year. With this achievement, the company has retained its position as the number one sustainability performer in India’s power generation sector for the second consecutive year.

AGEL has also secured the highest sustainability score among all industrial companies within the top 150 listed entities on the NSE. Only one organisation, from the services sector, scored marginally higher, underscoring AGEL’s strong focus on responsible operations and transparent governance practices.

According to the company, it has made significant progress across all three pillars of the NSE’s ESG assessment — environmental management, social responsibility, and governance. AGEL’s environmental score rose to 76, driven by continued strides in renewable energy adoption, waste reduction, recycling, and overall resource efficiency. The company has also achieved several major sustainability milestones, including becoming water-positive, eliminating single-use plastic, and ensuring zero waste is sent to landfills.

AGEL is notably the first among the world’s top ten renewable energy companies to become water-positive — accomplishing the feat ahead of its 2026 target.

The company’s social performance score increased to 74, reflecting its expanded efforts in community development, employee well-being, and wider social initiatives. But the most significant improvement came in governance, where AGEL’s score climbed to an impressive 82. The company continues to maintain rigorous governance systems through committees overseeing nominations, audits, risk management, and social impact — most of which are led by independent members.

AGEL emphasised that its governance approach prioritises meaningful standards and long-term responsibility rather than merely meeting compliance requirements.

The company’s sustainability performance has been consistently recognised by leading global and domestic agencies, including FTSE Russell, ISS ESG, Sustainalytics, and CRISIL. It has also begun adopting the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) framework — a global initiative that helps companies identify environmental risks and integrate nature conservation into strategic planning.

With its continued progress across environmental, social, and governance parameters, AGEL said it remains committed to advancing responsible energy transition and setting benchmarks for sustainable corporate growth in India.

Team Maverick.
