Political Row Erupts Ahead of Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ Rally in Kota

Jaipur, June 2026 : A day before Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s much-anticipated ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ rally in Kota, Rajasthan has witnessed a fresh political confrontation, with the Congress accusing the BJP-led state government of attempting to obstruct the event by removing publicity materials and allegedly pressuring local stakeholders.

The BJP, however, has firmly rejected the allegations, calling them “baseless” and politically motivated. The controversy has transformed what was envisioned as a student-centric outreach programme into a major political flashpoint in the state.

Rahul Gandhi’s rally, scheduled for Wednesday in Kota, is expected to focus on issues affecting students and job aspirants, including paper leaks, recruitment examination irregularities, rising unemployment, and educational challenges. The choice of Kota as the venue carries significant symbolism, as the city is widely regarded as India’s coaching hub and home to lakhs of students preparing for competitive examinations.

The Congress has alleged that authorities have begun removing banners, posters, and hoardings promoting the event. The party further claimed that pressure is being exerted on coaching institutes, paying guest (PG) operators, and guest-house owners to discourage student participation in the programme.

Rajasthan Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra accused the BJP government of being unsettled by the growing response to Rahul Gandhi’s event. According to him, attempts to remove publicity materials would not affect the programme’s success.

Dotasra also disclosed that while Rahul Gandhi is expected to travel to Kota by train, the party has arranged a contingency plan in the form of a charter aircraft to ensure that the event proceeds without disruption.

“If the train gets delayed, the programme schedule may be affected. Therefore, a Plan B has been arranged. Whether Rahul Gandhi arrives by train or by charter aircraft, the programme will take place as scheduled,” he said.

Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot intensified the Congress’ criticism of the state government, arguing that repeated incidents of paper leaks and controversies surrounding recruitment examinations have deeply shaken the confidence of young people.

Gehlot said that launching a movement centred on students from Kota sends a powerful message, particularly at a time when many young aspirants are struggling with uncertainty regarding jobs and examinations.

He also alleged that efforts were being made to create obstacles around Rahul Gandhi’s visit and claimed that an atmosphere was being generated suggesting that Lok Sabha Speaker and Kota MP Om Birla opposed the event.

According to Gehlot, reports of alleged pressure on coaching centres and other local stakeholders are emerging, which he described as troubling for democratic values.

The Congress party’s official social media handle also attacked the BJP government, stating that while posters and banners could be removed, the voice of the youth could not be silenced.

Rahul Gandhi, meanwhile, has projected the rally as a platform dedicated to students and employment seekers. In a social media message, he accused the Narendra Modi government of failing the country’s youth through repeated paper leaks, examination mismanagement, rising educational costs, and limited employment opportunities.

Young Congress leader Nirmal Chaudhary also questioned why allegations of poster removal and pressure tactics were surfacing if the BJP was not concerned about Rahul Gandhi’s outreach.

“Posters may be removed, but the questions raised by lakhs of students cannot be erased,” he remarked.

The BJP has strongly dismissed all allegations. Senior BJP leader Rajendra Rathore challenged Congress leaders to provide evidence supporting their claims and criticised attempts to drag Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla into the controversy.

Officials, meanwhile, maintained that some hoardings had been removed because they were allegedly installed without obtaining the necessary municipal permissions.

As both parties engage in an increasingly sharp war of words, Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ rally has already become more than just a student-focused event. The battle over posters, permissions, and political messaging now reflects a broader contest over youth issues and public perception in Rajasthan.

With Rahul Gandhi set to arrive in Kota, all eyes will be on whether the rally succeeds in amplifying student concerns—or further intensifies the political debate ahead of future electoral contests.
