IndiGo Hires Independent Expert to Probe Flight Disruptions

New Delhi, Dec 2025 : IndiGo has appointed an independent aviation consultancy to investigate the recent operational disruptions that affected its flights. The airline’s Board has approved the engagement of Chief Aviation Advisors LLC, led by aviation veteran Captain John Illson, to conduct a detailed review and identify the factors behind the disruption.

In a statement, IndiGo said, “The Board has approved the appointment of Chief Aviation Advisors LLC, led by Captain John Illson, veteran aviation expert, to conduct an independent expert review and assessment of the recent operational disruption and the contributing factors.”

Captain Illson brings over 40 years of experience in global aviation, having worked with major international bodies including the FAA, ICAO, and IATA, as well as leading airlines worldwide. IndiGo highlighted his expertise in aviation strategy, safety leadership, adherence to international standards, and new aircraft technologies as key reasons for selecting him for this critical task.

The objective of the review is to conduct a thorough root cause analysis of the operational disruption and identify areas for improvement in the airline’s operations. “The purpose is to carry out an independent root cause analysis of the recent disruption, besides identifying opportunities for improvement,” the airline said.

The decision to bring in an external expert was recommended by IndiGo’s Crisis Management Group, established by the Board to address the operational issues. With the Board’s approval in place, the review is set to begin shortly. The independent expert will submit a detailed report to the Board upon completion of the assessment.

IndiGo reaffirmed its commitment to understanding the causes of the disruption and strengthening its operational framework for the future.

Following the announcement, IndiGo’s shares closed slightly higher at Rs 4,862, up Rs 43 or 0.89% on the National Stock Exchange (NSE), reflecting positive investor sentiment amid the proactive move to resolve operational challenges.

This step underscores IndiGo’s focus on accountability, safety, and operational resilience as the airline seeks to restore normalcy and prevent future disruptions.
