Pankaj Chaudhary Files Nomination for UP BJP President; Party Set to Announce New State Chief on Sunday
Lucknow, Dec 2025 : Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary filed his nomination for the post of Uttar Pradesh BJP President at the party’s state headquarters in Lucknow on Saturday. The event was attended by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, signaling strong backing for Chaudhary in the upcoming organizational election. Speculation is rife that he is likely to assume the top state post.
The Uttar Pradesh BJP is completing its organizational election process this weekend, with nominations for the state president’s post filed on Saturday and results scheduled for announcement on Sunday. The party aims to conclude the internal elections efficiently and formally install its new state president in time to lead preparations for the 2027 assembly elections.
Chaudhary, a seven-time Member of Parliament representing the Maharajganj constituency, was appointed Union Minister of State for Finance in the second Modi cabinet. Before leaving for Lucknow, he addressed reporters in Delhi, stating, “All MPs have been called to Lucknow. I am also going there today for the state president election and nomination process. The party will handle this process, and we, as party workers, will fulfill the responsibilities assigned to us by the party.”
BJP spokesperson Hero Bajpayee described the organizational elections as a symbol of the party’s internal democracy. He said, “The Bharatiya Janata Party is a cadre-based, highly democratic party, and its elections are like a festival. Everyone expects a new president to be appointed, under whose leadership we will expand our presence in the 2027 assembly elections. Millions of party workers are eagerly awaiting this moment.”
Senior BJP leader Anand Dwivedi emphasized the structured electoral process, noting, “Elections in the BJP are conducted through a democratic process. After nominations are filed, they are verified, and after scrutiny, further steps for the elections are taken.”
Ahead of the nomination filing, senior national and state-level BJP leaders convened in Lucknow on Friday to finalize preparations for the organizational elections. The meeting was chaired by BJP National General Secretary (Organization) B.L. Santosh. After the meeting, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya confirmed that the new state president would be announced on Sunday.
Drawing a contrast with rival parties, Maurya remarked on the Samajwadi Party’s internal structure, stating, “The SP is limited to one family; their leaders make decisions about office bearers in their dining rooms. However, the BJP is a democratic party—the largest in the world—and a proper election process is followed here. The SP no longer has any future. In desperation, they often make useless statements.”
With organizational elections concluding this weekend, all eyes are on the official announcement of the new UP BJP President. Party workers and leaders alike view the appointment as a crucial step to strengthen the party’s presence in Uttar Pradesh ahead of upcoming assembly elections. The internal democratic exercise underscores BJP’s commitment to transparent processes, cadre participation, and strategic planning for electoral success.
