New Delhi/Goa, December 2025 : Aam Aadmi Party National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday, in view of the Goa District Panchayat elections, addressed a public meeting in Chimbel in support of the party’s candidate Maria Cristalina Anto after a door-to-door campaign. He said that there is no benefit for the people of Goa in voting for the Congress candidate, because after winning, he will go to the BJP. BJP also knows that if the Congress candidate wins, he will ultimately join the BJP. Therefore, people are demanding electricity, water, community buildings and other facilities, but the government is not providing them.

He said that Pramod Sawant’s government is a weekly extortion government, and the Arpora nightclub fire incident happened because of this extortion system. Today, the people of Goa are looking for honest politics, and the growing public support for the Aam Aadmi Party shows this change. Goa in-charge Atishi, state president Amit Palekar and other senior leaders were present on the occasion.

Addressing the public meeting in Chimbel, Arvind Kejriwal said that the people of Goa are giving a lot of love to the Aam Aadmi Party. It feels as if a wave of change is coming across Goa. Never before has such a large crowd gathered at a District Panchayat election meeting as has gathered today for the Aam Aadmi Party.

Giving an example, Kejriwal said that if there is a wedding in someone’s house and they do not invite us, we do not go to their house. There is a District Panchayat election in Goa. If no party comes and asks you for your vote, will you vote for it? Why vote for someone who does not even ask for your vote? This means they do not need our vote and do not respect us or our vote.

Kejriwal said that he has come from Delhi to ask for votes for the Aam Aadmi Party in the District Panchayat elections on December 20. But so far, no big leader from Congress or BJP has come from Delhi to ask for votes here. No election is small or big; in every election, the voter is big. These people value one vote at 80 paise, but for the Aam Aadmi Party, your vote is priceless.

He said he went door to door in Anjuna and met people. Have you ever seen Modi ji, Amit Shah or Rahul Gandhi going door to door to ask for votes? Because these people do not respect the common public.

Arvind Kejriwal said that there was a time when the whole world asked about Goa’s tourism, and today everyone asks what you have to say about the Arpora fire incident. May God grant peace to the souls of those who died in this incident. The Arpora nightclub did not have an occupancy certificate, building permission, construction approval, excise licence or trade licence. Even then, it was running illegally. Could CM Pramod Sawant not see the illegally running Arpora nightclub? People said that nightclub owners pay weekly extortion. Weekly money goes to the police, trade department, town and country planning, excise department and the panchayat department. Pramod Sawant’s government is a weekly extortion government.

Kejriwal said that media reports say Arpora is not the only case in Goa; there are countless establishments like Arpora running illegally across Goa. An honest person cannot run an honest business without paying money. Money has to be paid for house registration, for mutation, and even for electricity and water connections. To do any legitimate work in Goa, money has to be paid. Because of weekly extortion, all illegal activities are running in Goa. Those doing illegal work pay weekly money to officers, MLAs and ministers. If a minister is honest, no MLA or officer has the courage to take money. If the minister is corrupt, then officers are also corrupt. Officers take money because the minister takes money. The Arpora fire incident happened because of the corruption-ridden Pramod Sawant government.

He said that in Goa, youth are roaming unemployed despite having degrees. Without recommendations and bribes, government jobs are not possible. The entire system in Goa is corrupt. The Aam Aadmi Party government has been in Punjab for three years. Punjab and Goa elections happen together. In three years, the AAP government has given 55,000 government jobs without recommendation or bribes. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann himself went village to village distributing appointment letters. In Punjab, children of the poor, peons, labourers and farmers are getting jobs on merit. This change can also come to Goa, and the key lies with the people of Goa.

Kejriwal said that the road by which they came to Chimbel was completely broken. This is a main road, and on the left side of this road is the Chief Minister’s office. The road in front of the CM’s office is full of potholes. The entire Goa government is stuck in potholes. Someone said that the CM deliberately kept the road broken so that no one could reach his office. A CM who cannot fix the road in front of his office in three years should resign immediately. If he cannot fill the potholes outside his office, how will he fill potholes outside the people’s homes?

Giving the example of Punjab, Kejriwal said that the AAP government is building 43,000 km of excellent new roads. If we can do it, they can too. We are doing it because AAP is an honest party. Pramod Sawant’s government is an extortion government, that is why it does not build roads. They do not want to work for the people, only to loot Goa. BJP has given Goa only hooligan rule. People are threatened even for complaining about broken streetlights. Ministers and MLAs openly issue threats. Is this an emergency, is this dictatorship? The people of Goa must end this hooligan rule.

Kejriwal said that the Aam Aadmi Party is a revolution, an honest party, a party of decent people. In Goa, AAP has two MLAs in Benaulim and Velim. During public meetings, he asked people whether AAP MLAs or staff demanded money or commissions — people clearly denied it. While others become rich after becoming MLAs, AAP MLAs were poor earlier and are still poor. They collected donations and opened free clinics in their offices. BJP should have built clinics, but did not. That is why Amit Palekar opened a clinic in his own house.

Kejriwal apologised, saying that in the last election, the people of Santa Cruz made a mistake by electing a person who joined BJP the very next day. If Amit Palekar had been elected, every panchayat would have had a clinic by now. AAP has opened clinics across Goa providing free medicines.

He said BJP has been in power for 13 years, yet garbage and water problems remain unresolved. There is no benefit in voting BJP again. BJP has become arrogant because it knows Congress winners will join BJP. If Congress candidates win, they go to BJP. What is the benefit of voting for Congress then? If Goa wants an honest, working, trustworthy government providing schools, hospitals, electricity and water, press the broom button.

Goa in-charge Atishi said that voting happens on one day, but its impact lasts five years. If you vote correctly, development happens; if not, regret remains. She recalled how Congress MLAs elected in 2017 and 2022 joined BJP after winning. If trust is placed in the wrong person, the loss is only of the people.

She said BJP has ruled Goa for 13 years and has given only hooliganism, corruption and unemployment. People are afraid to speak about their problems. She narrated an incident where a science postgraduate youth was forced to drive a taxi and still had to pay bribes daily.

Atishi said BJP has given Goa broken roads, corruption and no healthcare. There is not a single primary health centre in Chimbel. Amit Palekar opened a free clinic in his own house, providing free treatment, tests and medicines. This was the government’s job, but AAP did it without being in power.

She said leaders who did nothing for five years now come offering money for votes. They value your vote at 80 paise. She urged people to vote for those who work for them, saying that even without power, AAP worked for the people — imagine how much it can do if elected.
