Modernization of Police Stations Needed to Curb Crimes: Chief Secretary

Jaipur, Dec 2025: Chief Secretary V. Srinivas said that the reduction in crime statistics in the state is a positive sign. However, to achieve the vision of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma of making the state crime-free, further efforts are needed. He emphasized that to control crimes, police response time must be reduced, investigations should be expedited, and police stations should be modernized.

Chief Secretary Srinivas was presiding over a review meeting at the Secretariat on the effective implementation of the Indian Penal Code, Indian Code of Civil Security, and Indian Evidence Act. He instructed police officials to ensure the digitalization of all police stations and the availability of modern equipment. Additionally, he directed that all police stations be provided with RajNet connectivity to ensure uninterrupted and strong Wi-Fi services.

He also stressed the importance of appointing female constables in stations to strengthen the response to crimes against women. Police officers were instructed to ensure that there is no unnecessary delay between filing an FIR and presenting the chargesheet.

Srinivas highlighted that under the new law, crimes committed anywhere can be registered as a ‘Zero FIR’ at any police station. The RajCop SOS alert system is available for all citizens, and the ‘Need Help’ feature on the RajCop mobile application ensures immediate assistance for women. He emphasized raising public awareness about these new provisions and innovations so that citizens can fully benefit from them.

During the meeting, Inspector General of Police (Intelligence) Prafull Kumar stated that the e-Evidence app is being used by the police, enabling digital recording and secure storage of videos, photos, and witness statements from crime scenes. The app also provides access to all case-related information. He noted that under new criminal procedures, there has been an increase in the number of cases resolved within 60 days.

The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary, Medical & Health Department Gayatri Rathore, Additional Director General of Police Hawa Singh Ghumaria, Bhupendra Sahu, Inspector General of Police Prafull Kumar, Ajaypal Lamba, Deputy Inspector General of Police Deepak Bhargav, Director of Rajasthan State Forensic Science Laboratory Dr. Ajay Sharma, and officials from the Home and Law Departments.
