TMC Minority Cell State Secretary Mohammed Ajmal Siddique Quits Party, Cites Internal Discontent

Kolkata, June 2026: In a significant development for the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal, senior party leader Mohammed Ajmal Siddique has resigned from all party positions, including his role as State Secretary of the Minority Cell, and has also relinquished his primary membership of the party.

In a resignation letter addressed to TMC chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Siddique said the decision came after considerable reflection and was not an easy one to make. He stated that he had devoted years of service, energy, and commitment to the party and had always worked with the interests of the organisation and its workers in mind.

Siddique described his association with the party as an honour and expressed gratitude for the opportunities and responsibilities entrusted to him under Mamata Banerjee’s leadership. He noted that contributing to the party’s growth and outreach had been a matter of pride. However, he said he had reached a point where continuing his association with the party was no longer possible.

While citing personal reasons as one factor behind his departure, Siddique also voiced strong dissatisfaction with the current internal functioning of the party. According to him, many committed and hardworking party workers have increasingly felt neglected and deprived of the recognition and respect they deserve.

He argued that the democratic culture that once encouraged dialogue and collective decision-making within the organisation had weakened over time. As a result, concerns raised by grassroots workers often remained unheard, creating frustration and disillusionment among loyal party members.

A key point in Siddique’s resignation letter was his criticism of the leadership style of TMC National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee. He claimed that working under Abhishek Banerjee’s leadership had become increasingly difficult and said that many long-serving party members felt marginalised by the current functioning of the organisation.

Siddique alleged that excessive concentration of authority and inadequate consultation with party workers had reduced the ability of leaders and functionaries to carry out their responsibilities effectively. He maintained that this environment had left many dedicated members feeling sidelined despite years of service to the party.

Reiterating his appreciation for the trust placed in him during his tenure, Siddique thanked the party leadership for the opportunities he had received. However, he formally requested the immediate acceptance of his resignation from the Minority Cell, all other organisational posts, and the party’s primary membership.

Concluding his letter, Siddique wished Mamata Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress success in the future, bringing an end to his association with the party amid growing concerns he says are being felt by sections of its grassroots cadre.
