Lucknow, December 2025 : Under the leadership and guidance of Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh, the Rani Lakshmibai Self-Defence Training Programme is moving forward in the state with concrete and measurable results in strengthening the safety, confidence, and self-reliance of girls. This initiative is no longer limited to a policy announcement; rather, it has become a clearly visible positive change in the lives of 1,078,402 girls who have already received training.

In the academic session 2025–26, so far (updated), a total of 1,078,402 girls have been provided self-defence training in 38,465 schools across the state. These figures include only those girls who have actively participated in the Rani Lakshmibai Self-Defence Training at the school level. This fact clearly underlines the seriousness, participation, and effectiveness of the programme.
This training is not only teaching girls self-defence techniques, but is also ensuring their holistic development by strengthening self-respect, alertness, courage, and decision-making ability. Through regular practice and trained guidance within school premises, girls are feeling safer, more aware, and more self-reliant. It is significant that today, through the training, the Rani Lakshmibai Self-Defence Training Programme is visibly laying a strong foundation for a safe, empowered, and fearless future of the girls.

Through the Rani Lakshmibai Self-Defence Training Programme, we are not only providing the daughters of the state with self-defenslce skills, but also empowering them with confidence, courage, and self-reliance. This training being imparted in schools is preparing girls for a safe future and making them aware of and empowered towards their rights. The government has a clear resolve that every trained girl should feel capable and fearless.
Under the Government of India’s PAB, through the annually approved budget under which this programme is operated, an amount of Rs 2282.80 lakh has been approved in the academic session 2025–26 for implementation in 45,656 upper primary and composite schools across the state. The objective is to provide systematic, regular, and quality self-defense training to girls at the school level.
To ensure effective monitoring and transparency of the programme, the ICT-based ‘Veerangana’ Monitoring Portal developed through UDISE+ is being used. On this portal, the daily online attendance of girls receiving training is recorded. Along with this, training videos, best practices, photographs, and motivational content have also been made available, ensuring the quality of training at the school level.
Monika Rani, Director General, School Education said, ” The impact of the Rani Lakshmibai Self-Defenslce Training is directly visible in schools. Continuous monitoring of training through the ICT-based ‘Veerangana’ Monitoring Portal, online attendance records, and quality content are ensuring that girls receive regular and effective training. This programme is playing an important role not only in making the educational environment safe, but also in the personality development of girls.
