Shivakumar Meets Rajanna in Key Political Move Amid Cabinet Exit Controversy
Dec 2025 : Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and state Congress president D.K. Shivakumar met Congress MLA K.N. Rajanna at his residence on Sunday, in what is being viewed as a politically significant development. Rajanna, a close aide of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and a former Minister of Cooperation, was recently removed from the cabinet following a directive from the Congress high command.
Rajanna’s exit came after he made a controversial remark alleging “vote theft,” which reportedly embarrassed the party leadership, including Rahul Gandhi. His removal triggered speculation and tension within party ranks, with several of his supporters accusing Shivakumar of being behind the move.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Shivakumar described the interaction as cordial and constructive. “Rajanna is our MLA. He served as a minister with us. I met him and will continue to meet him,” he said. Shivakumar added that they had planned to meet earlier but were unable to do so due to scheduling issues.
Responding to questions about the purpose of the meeting, Shivakumar emphasized that both leaders are part of the same party and share a working relationship. He dismissed any perception of internal conflict, highlighting his consistent approach to party affairs. “He (Rajanna) was in the government. He might have made a statement. I don’t feel bad about it. I never fought with anyone. I never made statements against anyone,” he said.
Shivakumar defended his record, stating that he only responds to allegations from the opposition and avoids personal commentary within the party. His remarks come at a time when Congress leaders in Karnataka are working to maintain unity and stability amid internal strains.
The meeting is seen as an attempt to ease tensions and bring Rajanna back into the fold as the Congress government continues navigating political challenges within the state.
