Punjab to Launch ‘Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna’ Offering Rs 10 Lakh Cashless Treatment to Every Family
Chandigarh, Dec 2025: In a major New Year initiative aimed at strengthening public healthcare, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday approved the launch of the ambitious Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, which will provide cashless medical treatment of up to Rs 10 lakh to every family in the state. The scheme is scheduled to come into effect from January and is being described as a landmark step towards universal healthcare in Punjab.
Chairing a high-level review meeting of the Health Department, the Chief Minister said the scheme reflects the state government’s firm commitment to ensuring quality healthcare for all residents without imposing any financial burden on them. He said the Mukh Mantri Sehat Beema Yojna has been designed to ensure that no family is forced to spend even a single rupee on essential medical treatment.
“This initiative is a decisive move towards universal healthcare. Punjab will become the first state in the country where every family will be entitled to cashless treatment of up to Rs 10 lakh,” CM Mann said. He added that the scheme marks a transformational shift in the way healthcare services are delivered to citizens.
Describing the programme as a flagship health assurance initiative of the government, the Chief Minister said the yojna aims to provide comprehensive financial protection and assured access to quality medical services to all eligible residents of Punjab. Under the scheme, each enrolled family will be eligible for cashless medical treatment worth up to Rs 10 lakh per year.
CM Mann said the scheme will cover a wide range of medical services, including treatment for major illnesses, critical care, complex surgeries, and life-saving procedures. These services will be available at an extensive network of empanelled government and private hospitals across Punjab as well as in Chandigarh, ensuring broad and equitable access to healthcare facilities.
The primary objective of the scheme is to ensure cashless and paperless treatment at empanelled hospitals while significantly reducing out-of-pocket expenditure on secondary and tertiary healthcare. The Chief Minister noted that the initiative will especially benefit economically vulnerable sections and families facing sudden medical emergencies.
He further said the yojna will help bridge the healthcare gap between urban and rural areas by strengthening equitable access to medical services across the state. To ensure smooth implementation, the scheme will also include robust digital platforms for beneficiary support, monitoring, and timely grievance redressal.
Under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, all major medical expenses will be covered, including hospitalisation charges, surgeries and medical procedures, ICU and critical care services, diagnostics, medicines, and consumables as per approved packages. Expenses related to pre- and post-hospitalisation care will also be included, offering comprehensive coverage to beneficiaries.
The Chief Minister reiterated that the scheme reflects the government’s resolve to place people’s health at the centre of governance and make quality healthcare a basic right rather than a privilege.
