“80 Maharashtra Institutions in National Rankings; SPPU Ranks 3rd Best University”

New Delhi : Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan released the Indian Rankings 2024 report. This marks the ninth consecutive year that the Indian rankings of higher education institutions have been released.

The National Institutional Ranking Framework 2024 was announced today by the Ministry of Education at Bharat Mandapam in the capital. The rankings highlight the top 80 institutions across 13 categories based on parameters such as teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practices, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity, and perception. Notably, three new categories have been added from 2024, including the best universities in the states, the best open universities, and skill universities. Among these, Savitribai Phule University in Pune has been recognized as the third-best university.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of State for Education Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, UGC Chairman Prof. M. Jagadesh Kumar, AICTE Chairman Prof. T.G. Sitharam, Secretary of the Ministry of Education K. Sanjay Murthy, Joint Secretary Govind Jaiswal, along with vice-chancellors and senior officials from various universities, attended the event.

Maharashtra’s 11 Institutions Among the Best Overall

In the institutional ranking list, 11 educational institutions from Maharashtra are included among the top 100 academic institutions in the country in the overall category. The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay ranks third, while the Homi Bhabha National Institute, Mumbai (27), Savitribai Phule Pune University (37), Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Pune (42), Symbiosis International Pune (52), Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai (56), Dr. D.Y. Patil University, Pune (63), Datta Meghe Institute of Higher Education and Research, Wardha (71), Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur (77), S.V.K.M.’s Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai (84), and Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai (98) are also included.

State’s 10 Universities in the University Rankings

Ten universities from Maharashtra are featured in the ranking of the top 100 universities in the country. The list includes Homi Bhabha National Institute, Mumbai (16), Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune (23), Symbiosis International Pune (31), Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai (35), Datta Meghe Institute of Higher Education and Research, Wardha (42), S.V.K.M.’s Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai (49), Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai (58), University of Mumbai (61), and Bharati Vidyapeeth, Pune (78).

State Public Universities

From this year, an assessment of all state public universities was conducted, with Savitribai Phule Pune University ranking third. Additionally, the University of Mumbai, Mumbai (18), COEP Technological University, Pune (33), and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad (46) also ranked.

Five Research Institutions from the State in Research Rankings

In the research institution rankings, five institutions from Maharashtra are among the top 50 in the country. The Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, ranks fourth, followed by Homi Bhabha National Institute, Mumbai (6), Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai (12), Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (29), and Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai (40).

Ranking of Five Engineering Institutes from the State

Among the top 100 engineering institutions in the country, five institutions from Maharashtra have been included. The Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, ranks third, Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur (39), Institute of Chemical Technology, Bombay (41), Defence Institute of Advanced Technology, Pune (63), and COEP Technological University, Pune (77).

Four Colleges from the State Achieve Rankings

In the college rankings, four colleges from Maharashtra are among the top 100 in the country. Ferguson College (Autonomous), Pune, ranks 45th, Government Institute of Science, Nagpur, ranks 64th, St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, ranks 89th, and Shri Shivaji Science College, Amravati, ranks 99th.

Nine Management Institutes from the State Achieve Rankings

Among the top 100 management institutions in the country, nine institutions from Maharashtra have been included. These include the Indian Institute of Management Mumbai (6), Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (10), Symbiosis Institute of Business Management Pune (13), S.V.K.M.’s Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai (20), S.P. Jain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai (20), Indian Institute of Management Nagpur (31), K.J. Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research, Mumbai (63), Prin. L.N. Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research, Mumbai (84), and National Institute of Bank Management, Pune (91).

Sixteen Pharmaceutical Institutes from the State Included

Sixteen institutions from Maharashtra have been included among the top 100 pharmaceutical institutions in the country. The Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai, ranked fifth among the top 10 pharmaceutical institutions, with S.V.K.M.’s Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai, securing 10th place. Additionally, Poona College of Pharmacy, Pune (35), Dr. D.Y. Patil Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research, Pune (36), S.V.K.M.’s Dr. Bhanuben Nanavati College of Pharmacy, Mumbai (39), Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur (51), R.C. Patel Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research Shirpur (56), Smt. Kishoritai Bhoyar College of Pharmacy, Nagpur (61), Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences, Karad (67), Dr. Vishwanath Karad MIT World Peace University, Pune (72), Bombay College of Pharmacy, Mumbai (73), Y.B. Chavan College of Pharmacy, Aurangabad (76), Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Pharmacy, Kolhapur (80), P.E. Society’s Modern College of Pharmacy, Pune (96), Principal K.M. Kundnani College of Pharmacy, Mumbai (97), and AISSMS College of Pharmacy, Pune (99) have also been included.

Three Medical Colleges from the State Included in Medical College Rankings

Among the top 40 medical colleges in the country, three institutions from Maharashtra have been included. These are Dr. D.Y. Patil University, Pune (11), Datta Meghe Institute of Higher Education and Research, Wardha (23), and Armed Forces Medical College, Pune (30). In the innovation category, the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay secured the top position.

Six Dental Colleges from the State Included in Dental College Rankings

Six institutions from Maharashtra have been included among the top 40 dental colleges in the country. Dr. D.Y. Patil University, Pune, ranked fifth, while Government Dental College, Nagpur (15), Datta Meghe Institute of Higher Education and Research, Wardha (24), Government Dental College, Mumbai (25), Nair Hospital Dental College, Mumbai (28), and Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed) Dental College and Hospital, Pune (36) were also included.

Skill Universities Category

Three new categories have been added from the academic year 2024, including skill universities. In this category, Symbiosis Skills and Professional University (formerly Symbiosis Skills and Open University Pune) has been recognized as the top university in the country.
