Hyderabad Police Launch Special Teams to Curb Drug Menace During New Year

Hyderabad, Dec 2025 : In a proactive move ahead of New Year celebrations, Hyderabad Police have formed 10 special cluster teams to tackle drug-related activities across the city. Vaibhav Gaikwad, DCP-Task Force and H-NEW, stated that the teams from the Hyderabad Narcotic Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) will conduct surprise checks and drunken driving inspections at pubs, bars, clubs, and restaurants to prevent drug abuse and maintain public safety.

“As part of the New Year special drive, six decoy teams have also been deployed, conducting random surprise checks at various hotspots across Hyderabad,” Gaikwad added. The operations have already commenced, focusing on ensuring safety without causing inconvenience to business establishments or the general public.

During the drives, suspects in and around targeted locations were screened using rapid drug testing kits, and all results came back negative so far. The initiative saw active participation from multiple units, including H-NEW, Law and Order Police, CAR, Headquarters Police, and the Sniffer Dog Team.

The cluster teams are led by Inspector G.S. Daniel and Inspector S. Balaswami of H-NEW, under the direct supervision of DCP Task Force/H-NEW Vaibhav Gaikwad. The coordinated efforts aim to deter drug-related offences and ensure that public celebrations remain safe and peaceful.

Hyderabad Police emphasized that such special drives will continue throughout the city during the New Year period, targeting criminal activities and safeguarding public interests. The department reiterated its commitment to creating a drug-free environment and ensuring citizens can celebrate the festive season without safety concerns.

With the combined efforts of these specialized teams, Hyderabad Police aim to maintain strict vigilance and strengthen law enforcement during one of the city’s busiest festive periods.
