Art and Literature Should Take the Lead in Public Awareness : Commissioner Shekhar Singh Interaction Held with Experts from Various Fields

Nashik, Dec 2025 : Commissioner of the Nashik–Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Development Authority, Shekhar Singh, has appealed to individuals from the fields of literature, art, education, and social service to take the lead in creating public awareness about the Simhastha Kumbh Mela to be held at Nashik–Trimbakeshwar. He also urged social organisations to take initiative to ensure that the 100th Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan, scheduled for 2027, is organised in Nashik.
Commissioner Singh was speaking during an interaction held this afternoon with experts from the fields of education, literature, art, journalism, and related areas to discuss organising the Simhastha Kumbh Mela and the 100th Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan around the common theme of the Kumbh Mela concept.
Prominent attendees included Dr. Govind Katlakute, Registrar of Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University; litterateur Naresh Mahajan; Advocate Nitin Thakare, General Secretary of the Maratha Samaj Vidya Prasarak Mandal; Balasaheb Kshirsagar; Prof. Dilip Phadke, President of Nashik Education Society; Registrar Girish Natu; Suresh Gaydhani of SAWANA; District Library Officer Sunil Jagtap; Principal Dr. Ram Kulkarni; Prakash Kadve, and several other dignitaries from various fields.
Commissioner Singh stated that the Simhastha Kumbh Mela is held once every 12 years at Nashik–Trimbakeshwar, and the upcoming Kumbh Mela will span a long duration. Therefore, initiatives such as seminars, essay-writing competitions, and discussion forums should be organised on topics including the history of the Simhastha Kumbh Mela, its significance, its importance in scriptures, environmental conservation in the region, the sanctity of the Godavari River, cleanliness, and preservation.
He further suggested organising writing competitions on themes such as social harmony during the Kumbh Mela and spirituality in modern life, while also highlighting the artistic dimensions of the Kumbh Mela through coordination with the literary community. Commissioner Singh also appealed to colleges to incorporate the Simhastha Kumbh Mela theme into their annual cultural festivals, and to organise exhibitions of Kumbh Mela-related literature, book fairs, and workshops to actively participate in public awareness efforts.
During the interaction, the dignitaries present offered several suggestions regarding the organisation of the Simhastha Kumbh Mela. Commissioner Singh assured that these suggestions would be duly considered during the planning process.
