Self-Reliant Rajasthan in Water Sector a Top Priority: CM Bhajanlal Sharma
Jaipur, December 2025 : Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma said that making Rajasthan fully self-reliant in the water sector is the state government’s top priority. With this objective, the government has initiated several important water and irrigation projects from the very beginning of its tenure to ensure adequate water availability for the people of the state. He directed officials to further accelerate work on the Ramjal Setu Link Project and other ongoing schemes.
The Chief Minister was chairing a review meeting of the Water Resources Department at the Chief Minister’s Office on Monday. He said the state government is working with full commitment to enhance water availability for the general public and farmers, and instructed that irrigation and development works be completed within stipulated timelines through regular monitoring.
Speed up Ramjal Setu Link Project
Sharma stressed that water is a fundamental requirement for the overall development of the state. Keeping this in view, the government has taken several key decisions related to the development of water sources, increasing storage capacity, and strengthening water management. He said that the Ramjal Setu Link Project will ensure uninterrupted water supply to a large population of the state, and directed officials to carry out the project in a phased manner as per the approved action plan, with full responsibility and efficiency.
During the meeting, Water Resources Department officials informed the Chief Minister that under the project, three ongoing works worth about ₹9,400 crore are currently in progress. The construction of the Ramgarh Barrage and the Kafar Dam and drainage channel of Mahalpur Barrage has already been completed. Work is also underway on an aqueduct on the Chambal River to divert water from Navnera Barrage to Bisalpur and Isarda dams, along with the Mej–Galwa, Galwa–Isarda–Bisalpur feeder channels.
Officials further informed that under the Ramjal Setu Project, five additional works worth approximately ₹14,600 crore will be taken up shortly. These include projects from Bisalpur to Mor Sagar (Ajmer), Isarda to Bandh Baretha (Bharatpur), Isarda to Ramgarh (Jaipur), Khura Chainpura to Jaisamand (Alwar), and the Brahmani Barrage.
The Chief Minister also issued necessary directions regarding other water resource projects. Senior officials from the Water Resources Department and the Chief Minister’s Office were present at the meeting.
