Revanth Reddy Directs Action Plan to Develop Pollution-Free Greater Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Dec 2025 : Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday directed senior officials to draw up a comprehensive and time-bound action plan to transform Greater Hyderabad into a pollution-free, clean, and well-governed urban centre. Chairing a detailed review meeting with officials from the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department, along with newly appointed Zonal Commissioners, the Chief Minister stressed the need for strict implementation of cleanliness, sanitation, and environmental protection measures across the city.

During the meeting, Revanth Reddy underlined that effective garbage management and sustained cleanliness drives must become a daily priority. To significantly reduce pollution levels, it was decided to impose a complete ban on the use of plastic within the city limits. The Chief Minister made it clear that the ban should be enforced strictly, with officials ensuring compliance at all levels.

Referring to the recently unveiled Telangana Rising 2047 Vision Document at the Global Summit, the Chief Minister said the blueprint offers a long-term roadmap for the planned development of the state. As part of this vision, the Core Urban Region (CURE) within the Outer Ring Road is being developed as a model urban zone with a strong focus on sustainability, infrastructure, and governance. To streamline administration, the CURE has already been reorganised into 12 zones, 60 circles, and 300 wards.

Reviewing the status of water bodies, Revanth Reddy emphasised that lakes, ponds, and nalas must be protected at all costs from encroachments. He instructed officials to take immediate action to safeguard these natural assets, stating that water conservation is central to the city’s long-term environmental health. To curb air pollution, the government has already introduced electric buses and electric autos within the CURE area, gradually replacing diesel-powered vehicles.

The Chief Minister directed newly appointed Zonal Commissioners to conduct regular field visits to understand ground-level issues and ensure swift resolution of civic problems. He said administrative efficiency must be reflected on the streets, with visible improvements in sanitation, road conditions, and public services.

To strengthen monitoring and enforcement, Revanth Reddy instructed officials to install CCTV cameras at vulnerable locations such as ponds, nalas, and garbage dumping points. He also ordered that a special sanitation drive be conducted for three days every month in each zone. Officials were told to discharge their responsibilities sincerely and ensure that garbage does not accumulate on roads and that potholes are addressed without delay.

Highlighting the importance of citizen-centric governance, the Chief Minister called for improved service delivery within the core urban region. He directed officials to leverage technology for issuing birth and death certificates, trade licences, and other civic documents. All services should be made available online in a transparent and time-bound manner. He also stressed the need for constant communication with colony welfare associations and apartment associations to address local concerns effectively.

Revanth Reddy said that Hyderabad must move towards smart governance alongside good governance. In this context, he instructed officials of HYDRAA, GHMC, and the Water Works Department to begin desilting of nalas from January, well ahead of the monsoon season. This, he said, would help prevent flooding and reduce health hazards.

The Chief Minister also directed Zonal Commissioners to intensify efforts to prevent mosquito breeding and the spread of communicable diseases. Garbage cleaning operations should be carried out at least once every ten days to maintain hygiene standards across residential and commercial areas.

Stating that he would personally conduct monthly reviews with all Zonal Commissioners, Revanth Reddy warned that there would be zero tolerance for laxity. He instructed officials to strictly enforce food safety regulations in hotels and eateries operating within the CURE region and take stringent action against violators.

The Chief Minister further ordered authorities to identify available government land in the core urban area for the construction of permanent buildings for government offices. Offices currently functioning from rented premises should be shifted to government-owned buildings. He also directed that all lakes, ponds, and nalas across the 12 zones of the core urban region be comprehensively mapped.

Finally, officials were instructed to remove encroachments and take proactive measures to prevent flood-related issues during the monsoon. Large lakes should be identified, restored, and developed into activity zones, blending environmental conservation with public utility, the Chief Minister said.

Team Maverick.
