AAP conducted Havan at Yamuna Ghat to forgive BJP government’s sins

New Delhi, 31 December 2025 : The Aam Aadmi Party conducted a Havan on the Yamuna on Wednesday to seek forgiveness for the sins committed by the BJP government during the Chhath festival. Representing the Purvanchali community in Delhi, AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha, former MLA Akhilesh Tripathi, and Vinay Mishra performed Havan at Chhath Ghat in Kalindi Kunj, praying to Chhathi Maiya to forgive the BJP government for its failures. AAP Delhi state coordinator Saurabh Bhardwaj said that CM Rekha Gupta and the BJP government committed a sin by lying to Purvanchalis and making them offer Arghya to Chhathi Maiya and Lord Surya with sewage water. This Havan was conducted by AAP to seek forgiveness for these sins.

After the Havan, MLA Sanjeev Jha said that two days ago, Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa admitted that one cannot use Yamuna water for Achman; it is not water but sewage. Chhath Puja is the most sacred festival for Purvanchalis and is a festival of cleanliness. BJP leaders, however, had told people to perform Achman in the Yamuna claiming the water was completely clean.

Sanjeev Jha added that they came to seek forgiveness from Lord Surya and hence performed Havan on the Yamuna banks. Due to BJP’s misleading claims, the Chhath Puja of the Purvanchalis became impure. He prayed that the Lord grant wisdom to CM Rekha Gupta and her cabinet so that they do not lie during sacred festivals and do not manipulate faith.

Sanjeev Jha highlighted that the Yamuna’s condition is very bad. He recalled that in October, BJP leaders had claimed the Yamuna was clean and safe for bathing and Achman. Now, two months later, the same environment minister warns that bathing could cause serious illness. The river has turned into a sewage channel, reflecting BJP government’s sins.

Former MLA Akhilesh Pati Tripathi said that three months ago, BJP disrespected faith by forcing people to use dirty Yamuna water for Chhath, a festival of purity, and today they prayed for forgiveness.

Former MLA Vinay Mishra added that Chhath symbolizes faith, and BJP leaders misled people by claiming Yamuna water was clean. Hence, they conducted Havan to seek forgiveness from Lord Surya for BJP’s manipulation of the sacred festival.
