Unique ‘Green Cave’ Discovered in Kanger Valley, New Tourism Avenues to Open Soon

Raipur, January 2026 : Chhattisgarh’s Kanger Valley National Park is renowned across India and abroad for its breathtaking natural beauty, rich biodiversity and world-famous tourist destinations. Adding another remarkable feature to this list, a unique natural formation has now been discovered in the Kanger Valley, named the “Green Cave”.

It is noteworthy that under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai and on the directions of Forest and Climate Change Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap, the state government is giving special priority to the conservation, protection and promotion of tourism and forest heritage. Forest Minister Shri Kashyap has stated that the inclusion of the Green Cave on the tourism map will give a new dimension to tourism in Kanger Valley National Park. This will help generate local employment opportunities and accelerate regional development. He added that tourists will soon be able to experience the natural beauty of this extraordinary cave firsthand. After completing the necessary preparations, the Forest Department plans to open the cave to visitors in the near future.

The Green Cave is located in Compartment Number 85 of the Kotumsar area. The cave derives its name from the presence of green microbial layers found on the limestone formations and stalactites hanging from its walls and ceiling. Formed of limestone and rock, the cave is considered one of the rare and distinctive caves of the Kanger Valley.

The approach to the Green Cave passes through large rocky stretches. As soon as visitors enter the cave, the green walls covered with microbial deposits immediately draw attention. Moving further inside, a विशाल chamber comes into view, from where visitors can witness massive and gleaming stalactites and flowstones—stone layers formed by flowing water—which further enhance the cave’s natural grandeur.

Nestled amidst dense forests, the cave is set to become a new attraction for tourists due to its unique structure and pristine natural charm. The Forest Department is ensuring the protection and regular monitoring of the cave. Keeping visitor convenience in mind, development work is underway for access routes, walking trails and other essential infrastructure.

Continuous efforts are being made by the Forest Department to promote tourism development in Kanger Valley National Park. In this initiative, the guidance of Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Force Shri V. Srinivasan, along with Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Shri Arun Pandey, has played an important role.
